4. Night Landscape

Click on image for larger view
This landscape scene is from Sunny Bunnies which was originally published a few years ago but it is a 'landscape' image I am still fond of. I particularly like the night-time blues, and the friendly lights of the car making its way home through Carrot Cake Park.

Materials: Dip-pen ink outlines on watercolour paper, coloured with watercolour paints and coloured pencils.

6. Grandparents and SkADaMo 2014

Over on my blog ( June Goulding ) I'm trying to post a sketch a day as part of Sketch A Day Month, and this couple arrived on my sketch book page.
I think they might qualify as Granparents, so I thought I would share them here as part of our monthly inspiration theme word - Grandparents.

9. A bear in a hat!

Here is a quick bear sketch from me, to join in with the March theme word.

As we are into Spring, and the days are lighter.. green shoots are pushing upwards and flowers are opening their hearts, and Betty couldn't resist adding a few to her straw hat to celebrate.

10. Pirates ahoy!

Tom the cabin boy and the ship's cat watch as
the Pirates use the map to find the hidden treasure

Here is a piece from a pop-up Pirate Ship Adventure book I illustrated a few years back.
This image shows 3 layers of illustrations roughly assembled in photoshop to give an impression of the cut-out layered view!

These are the three illustrations as individual layers, drawn out in pencil.
The lines on the top layer indicate where 3D folds would be made
to bring the front layer forward.
I needed to work out the cut-out areas for each layer, to display the scene below it.

This was the facing page where the text would go.
It had an ornate border to match the illustration.

11. Holiday for bears!

Going to Camp Bruno, for small bears

This little bear appeared on my paper when I was sketching. He is eagerly awaiting the bus to take him to the holiday camp for small bears.

Sketched roughly in 2B pencil, scanned and then digitally coloured in Photoshop. This gave me a chance to learn how to add textures, but it is tempting to overdo all the patterns and effects, so I tried to keep it simple. I think it is still too fussy a drawing - but a small step forward towards a new way of working for me.

13. Breezy Bunnies for the iPhone and iPod Touch

Breezy Bunnies, the spring story picture book that I illustrated last year is now available as an app for the iPhone or iPod Touch. "Breezy Bunnies: It’s springtime in Carrot Cake Park, and these two breezy bunnies are ready to have fun – playing with their friends, picnicking with ducklings, and cloud-watching along the way. And should the weather change, big sister is all prepared with her

14. A bicycle built for two!

This is the cover image of the Spring story in the picture book series I am working on. I had to create a tandem for the rabbit siblings. 'Breezy Bunnies' isn't yet published.

15. The Big Draw ~ Draw me a pig!

In recognition of the official Big Draw Day on the 10th of October, I sketched whilst at my local library. I was with an illustrator friend, Frances Cony.
We chose the theme of drawing a 'pig' as a pig is the adopted mascot of our regional illustrators group in the UK. (SWillustrators, is abbreviated to 'SWill', and swill is pig feed!)

I put our sketches on my blog, and then thought it might be nice to open The Big Draw ~ Draw me a pig! challenge up to others throughout the month of October!
Feel free to send me a scan of your own pig sketch if you want to join in on my Blog Big Draw 2009! I will post your pig drawing, and credit it with your name and a link to your blog or website.

So here is the rough pencil sketch that eventually resulted from my Big Draw moment at the library...

16. A Spooktacular Halloween to you all

This is an oldie, but still fun.
It is art I did for a Haunted House pop-up book in 2004.
I have tried to put the different layers together in Photoshop for this image.
Happy Halloween everyone.
