1. Happy Holidaze: 12 Days of Grumpy Cat Christmas Comics

grumpyMOAR Grumpy Cat. This little kitty isn’t letting Deadpool get all the 12 Days of Christmas fun, but is appearing in her own series of comic strips at Nerdist. Because nothing says Christmas like an angry feline. The strips were produced by Dynamite Comics. Disclosure: This comic strip was written by my significant other.

2. Grumpy Cat world domination: over 100,000 graphic novels ordered and Free Comic Book Day

Can people get enough of Grumpy Cat? I don’t think so. The first four issue series has been a hit, […]

5. Dynamite Gathers Some Cool Cats for Grumpy Cat Comic Series

Most memes are like flavors of the week.  They create a stir, and then suddenly disappear, lost to the annals of the Wayback Machine.  Occasionally, however, a meme is so dank that it persists beyond its short expected lifespan.  Grumpy Cat may be the first meme to be so incredibly dank that it becomes immortal.

The puffy-faced, sullen-brow cat has multiplied like a rabbit, spawning a media empire that has escaped the digital matrix and proliferated reality.  Lifetime recently made a movie about her where she was voiced by Aubrey Plaza. Personalized Grumpy Cat plushies have even appeared in my alma mater’s bookstore.  Now, Grumpy Cat will appear in my local comic store (and yours!), too beginning this October.

Dynamite announced the creative team for the Grumpy Cat series today, and it features some fantastic talent.  See the full list below and enjoy the bevy of preview images that follow:GrumpyCat01-Cov-E-Photo

Rebekie Bennington, artist: “When I first got the message about doing some art for Grumpy Cat, I didn’t know if I could handle the pressure of being judged by the grumpiest cat on the internet… but then I realized that my own general grumpiness made me a perfect fit!”

Ben Fisher, writer: “Grumpy Cat has managed to transcend from meme to globally recognized personality with astonishing speed. Nearly anyone with Internet access knows that face, across all ages and nationalities. It’s a huge honor to be given the opportunity to participate in her entrance into a new medium. Comic books are a natural fit for Grumpy Cat, along with her supporting cast of friends and family. I’m having a blast writing these great characters and developing their world. Also, Dynamite promised that if the books do well, they’ll let me pitch the Chocolate Rain graphic novel.”

Agnes Garbowska, artist: “I’m working on Grumpy Cat! I am so honoured that I can take part in capturing Grumpy Cat herself in comic book form. Currently, I am working on the covers for the comics. I wrapped up a cover for issue #1 and am working on a cover for the next issue. I am super excited to be a part of the Grumpy Cat team!”
GrumpyCat01-Cov-D-GarbowskatifKen Haeser, artist: “I jumped at the chance to work on Grumpy Cat when Dynamite told me they were putting out a comic. How often do you get to work on something that is so universally known? Everyone knows Grumpy Cat! And hopefully it’ll bring in a lot of non-comic readers to check it out. All I know is that it is going to be a lot of fun!”
GrumpyCat01-Cov-B-HaeserTavis Maiden, artist: “This is literally the first thing I’ve worked on that my kids think is cool. When I was tasked with capturing Grumpy Cat’s likeness and personality for the covers, I was met with grueling deadlines, harsh criticism, and sweeping revisions… er, I mean, praise be to our Fluffy Overlord, may we never be good enough for her.”
GrumpyCat01-Cov-C-MaidenBen McCool, writer: “Like millions worldwide, I’ve had countless chuckles over the past few years thanks to Grumpy Cat. I was lucky enough to attend the miserable moggy’s official birthday party last year, and didn’t think I could possibly trump it in terms of cat-related coolness. Little did I know I’d find myself in a position to write stories about Grumpy (along with Pokey, her eternally optimistic, happy-go-lucky brother — shenanigans aplenty are an absolute guarantee)! I’m delighted to be part of such an exciting, fun-filled project, and can’t wait for you all to read the madcap misadventures of Grumpy Cat.”

Royal McGraw, writer: “Life isn’t always roses. Sometimes it’s the stuff you use to fertilize roses. Grumpy Cat has become an internet sensation because she’s not afraid to voice the grumpy truth… and look adorable doing it. Personally, I’m thrilled to help Dynamite Entertainment bring Grumpy Cat to a brand new medium!”
Elliott R. Serrano, writer: “I’m really excited to be a member of Team Grumpy Cat! Ever since she gained fame on the ‘internetz’, Grumpy Cat was destined to join the pantheon of animal personalities that have captured our imagination. Grumpy Cat gets to say the things that we all think, yet are too polite to say. When writing Grumpy Cat, I had to get in touch with that part of myself that’s not afraid to point out that while the cloud may have a silver lining, it’s still raining. Let’s face it, the reason we all love Grumpy Cat is because we each have a little Grumpy Cat inside of us.”
Steve Uy, artist: “Cat memes have become a part of American culture, and there doesn’t seem to be anything stopping it. One day, when it overcomes hot dogs and baseball, I’ll be able to tell my grandchildren that I was a part of the very first cat meme book with Grumpy Cat, and they will look upon me with awe and respect, and shower me with more love than I need. That is why I’m a part of this book.”

6. Grumpy Cat is getting her own comic book from Dynamite

GrumpyCat01-PRCover.jpg
Grumpy Cat, the professional name of the mixed breed cat Tardar Sauce, is getting her own comic book! Considering that she draws the biggest lines at any event she shows up at and has 31 million YoutTube vies, I’d say…it’s about time. The comic will co-star her real life brother Pokey, and if you get a little Garfield Odie vibe, well…it’s Grumpy’s time.

The comic will debut as a three-issue mini series this fall.

Dynamite is proud to announce a collaborative licensing partnership with Grumpy Cat Limited to develop print and digital comic books and graphic novels featuring “The World’s Grumpiest Cat” and her brother, Pokey. Grumpy Cat will debut the first of her all-new misadventures in a three-issue miniseries, released in Fall 2015, and collected into a hardcover graphic novel in time for the holiday season. Dynamite also plans to launch a website this summer where new Grumpy Cat comic strips will go up online every week.

“With her ever-present pout and sassy disposition, Grumpy Cat has won the hearts of people everywhere. I can tell you, we’re thrilled, just absolutely thrilled, to bring this adorable curmudgeon’s misadventures to the comic world!” says Keith Davidsen, Marketing Manager of Dynamite Entertainment. “One of the most important responsibilities for today’s comic publishers is creating content that will attract fresh new audiences to experience the wonders of the medium, and Grumpy Cat is the perfect combination of unbearable cuteness, instant fan appeal, and established multimedia presence to make just such a thing happen. If you love the memes, the videos, and that irresistable scowl, then get ready for the wildly fun antics of Grumpy Cat and Pokey in Dynamite’s all-new, all-sensational Grumpy Cat comics!”

Grumpy Cat’s global following includes 7.6 million Facebook fans and over 31 million YouTube views. Since her photos first went viral in 2012, Grumpy Cat has gone from Internet star to real-life celebrity. She has two New York Time Best Selling Books, her own Lifetime movie Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever (voiced by actress Aubrey Plaza), has made numerous appearances including the MTV Movie Awards, American Idol, The Bachelorette, The Today Show, SXSW, Good Morning America, and even hosted WWE Monday Night Raw. Grumpy Cat is Friskies official “Spokescat”, has filmed videos with Disney and Sesame Street, and appears in commercials for McDonald’s and Honey Nut Cheerios. Licensed Grumpy Cat merchandise is currently available at retailers worldwide.

Dynamite Entertainment’s Grumpy Cat comic books and graphic novels will be available to consumers through the comic book specialty market, and its graphic novels will be available at major bookstore chains, online booksellers, and independent bookstores courtesy of Diamond Book Distributors. Grumpy Cat comics will also be available for purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Dynamite Digital, iVerse, and Dark Horse Digital. Fans and retailers are encouraged to follow Dynamite Entertainment and Grumpy Cat’s official social media channel for the latest updates regarding creative teams and release dates.
