2. 2010 Hans Christian Andersen Awards and 2010 IBBY-Asahi Reading Promotion Award Winners Announced Today

Today at the Bologna Book Fair the 2010 the Hans Christian Andersen Award Jury of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) announced the winners of the 2010 Hans Christen Anderson Award. PaperTigers was there to hear the exciting news and we send our congratulations to David Almond from the United Kingdom, winner of the 2010 Hans Christian Andersen Author Award and Jutta Bauer from Germany, winner of the 2010 Hans Christian Andersen Illustrator Award.

Also announced at today’s press conference was the winner of The IBBY-Asahi Reading Promotion Award. This award is presented to projects run by groups or institutions that are judged to be making a lasting contribution to reading promotion for children and young people. 12 projects were nominated for this year’s award and two winners were selected: Osu Children’s Library Fund (Ghana) and Convenio de Cooperación al Plan de Lectura (Medellín, Colombia).

4. New website highlights the 2010 Hans Christian Andersen Award candidates

Zohreh Ghaeni, president of 2010 Hans Christian Andersen Award Jury, has created a new website which provides information on the 2010 Hans Christian Andersen Awards’ candidates. The prize, named after Danish author Hans Christian Anderson, is sometimes known as the “Little Nobel Prize” is an international award given biennially by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) in recognition of a “lasting contribution to children’s literature”. There are two categories of award winners: authors and illustrators. For  the 2010 Awards, 28 writers and 27 illustrators have been nominated by 32 different IBBY National Sections. The winners will be announced at the IBBY Press Conference at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair on Tuesday, 23 March 2010.

5. Bologna Children’s Book Fair - the World’s Leading Children’s Publishing Event

Spring is in the air which means it’s time for the Bologna Children’s Book Fair - the world’s leading publishing fair covering all genres for infants, children and young adults. This year’s fair,the 46th edition, will take place at the Bologna Exhibition Centre from March 23rd to 26th and will feature: 1300 exhibitors, 20,0000 square metres, 69 countries, 55 languages and over 4,800 foreign visitors. The exhibitors will include publishers, literary agents, packagers, printers, international organizations, TV and film producers, licensor and licensees, and service companies linked to the publishing world.

Along with the the exhibition of worldwide children’s publishing and fabulous Programme of Events, highlights will include:

The Bologna Illustrators Exhibition - an exceptional display of children’s book illustrations, selected by an international jury. The 2009 Guest of Honour of the Illustrators Exhibition will be Korea, a country with strong traditions in illustration, cartoons, and design. A special exhibit entitled “Round and Round in a Circle” will showcase the literature, history and customs of Korea through illustrations.

A special “show-in-show” dedicated to Roberto Innocenti, winner of the 2008 Hans Christian Andersen Prize for Illustration.

The Illustrators’ Cafe - the ideal place to meet illustrators, authors, and publishers, discuss the latest developments, talk about everything related to illustration and attend special events. This is the place to be on March 24th when the announcement ofThe Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award for Literature will be broadcast live from Vimmerby, Sweden.

Bolognaragazzi Award - one of the most coveted prizes in children’s publishing, this award is reserved for books with outstanding graphic and editorial design.
