Today on EMUS Debuts, I share some book promotion links that I've found helpful as I move forward in planning events for my upcoming book releases.
Book promotion can be a bit mind-boggling for many authors (including myself!). Each book requires its own special promotional events, so my hope is to share resources and help other writers who are experiencing that feeling of "swirling the drain" as they plan for their book release.
Enjoy!

Over at EMUS Debuts this week, we're celebrating the launch of Elaine Vickers's middle-grade novel, LIKE MAGIC! Author Jason Gallaher asked the EMUS if we had any significant friendships that had changed our lives. Of course, I just had to talk about my husband, Mark.
Read Jason's piece here (and get to laugh at my high school homecoming dance picture!)

This week EMU'S DEBUTS has been celebrating the launch of Donna Janell Bowman's debut picture book, STEP RIGHT UP. It's a fabulous picture book biography about Doc and Jim Key and how they began the humane treatment of animals movement. Every day, a new post has been made to give insight into the creation of this wonderful book.
Today, Cynthia Levinson lets readers get to know some of the EMUS a little more closely by sharing stories and pictures of their own pets. I've always said that behind every great author there's a cat (or dog or horse or some furry, finned or feathered creature!). Enjoy Cynthia's post here!

SORRY FOR THE DELAY!
Geesh, I am full of apologies lately. I’m so far behind in everything, which might not surprise you if you read my Emu’s Debuts post about “balance” being overrated. Being a mother, an author, managing my book launch and Multiple Sclerosis…phew. Wanna be an intern? Inquire within. Better terms and conditions than Kramerica Industries!
First I’d like to THANK YOU for backing my friend Ryan Hipp’s Kickstarter project, LITTLE STEPS. Ryan has exceeded his goal with more than a week to go. HIPP HIPP HOORAY!
Next, here are the winners from the past two giveaways! (Selected with the help of Random.org.)

NUGGET AND FANG PRIZE PACK from Tammi Sauer:
Laura Dineen!
CONGRATULATIONS! Watch for an email from me.
And that’s all folks. But stay tuned—lots of book reviews coming soon, including a rare “poisonous” foray into YA fiction! I’ll also be walking you through what it takes to plan a book launch, which today includes getting quotes for COOKIES. Sweet!

No, that’s not an ostrich, it’s an EMU.
See, besides this crazy blog, I also belong to EMU’s Debuts, which is even nuttier because it’s run by debut kidlit authors repped by the Erin Murphy Literary Agency. (Get it? Erin MUrphy?) And we’re one bizarre bunch. (C’mon, we named our blog after an Australian flightless bird. It’s worse than vegemite, mate.)
We did something today that took a lot of NERVE for the release of Jeanne Ryan’s YA debut!
We’re playing “Truth or Dare”, video style!
Check it out because I make a complete fool of myself!
(Which, ya know, is pretty easy to do.)
I call my video “Truth or Date”.
If you can, please leave a comment (I realize that’s difficult while making the cuckoo-sign) because we’re hoping to get more comments than ANOTHER BLOG who DARED us to this challenge!

If you mosey on over to EMU’s Debuts today, you’ll stumble across a strange sight: my first-ever vlog.
I can’t promise that it will be entertaining, but I can promise that I’ll make a fool of myself. That’s what I’m really good at.

EMU’s Debuts is not a flock of oversized flightless birds opening on Broadway. It’s a bunch of new authors represented by the Erin Murphy Literary Agency chatting about their experiences from deal to debut. It’s everything you ever wanted to know about the process of publishing a book from the author’s perspective.
Today on EMU’s I talk about getting “the call”. So pop on over for a quick read and show the debut authors some love by following along. It promises to be a wild ride, not unlike jumping on an emu.
I know what you mean about being overloaded…and I’m anxiously awaiting your info on planning a book launch as my first science fiction middle grade eBook SEVENTH GRADE (ALIEN!) HERO just came out!
Great news to wake up to! Thanks, Tara! Your post at Emu’s was awesome. Left a comment over there.
It is hard to keep from being overwhelmed…and you have quite a lot (of amazing things) on your plate, Tara! Congrats to Tina and Laura.
Congratulations!
I am working on it now and it’s taking up most of my thoughts and energy. I didn’t think I’d have a book launch party–such a big expense–but I am being encouraged by my friends and family to do it, since you only debut once! I am researching SWAG options, planning book plates with James Burks, my illustrator, so we can easily have books signed by us both, arranging blog reviews, appearances and other publicity opportunities, and doing fun things like pricing out cookie favors for the party. I am not a very organized person, and there’s a lot to manage, and I’m doing it all off the top of my head instead of making a list or spreadsheet. I think tomorrow I will create a checklist. Or find one online. Someone already invented this wheel, I’m sure!
