1. Puppicasso Predictions 2014 Edition – Breaking Bad Eddie Style

” I was dreaming when I wrote this. So sue me if I go to fast.” – Prince and The Revolution

Puppicasso took a long break from all that predicting, because it was getting way too unpredictable.

But today he turned six years old.

From six months to six years he has been living the adopted life, and from nine months he moved into his Breaking Bad life.  He grew up in the Burbank offices, and early on came to know a fellow named Eddie –

Puppi always has to look over his shoulder....

Puppi always has to look over his shoulder….

Little did I know then that this expression was a prediction...

Little did I know then that this expression was a prediction…

Puppicasso’s first prediction of 2014 was made in 2009, when he sat not so patiently next to Eddie knowing that his mom would be Nominated for one today!

Here’s to hoping that the American Cinema Editors Eddie Awards Ceremony allows Puppis in to enjoy and all the meat they can eat!

Pupp extends his paw up for a paw/fist bump to the other people that gave him belly rubs and fed him while they were trying to cut — Skip Macdonald, Kelley Dixon, and Chris McCaleb!

He thanks Lynne Willingham for lending her Breaking Bad Eddie Award so he could facilitate his long term prediction– five years in the making!

2. Puppicasso Predictions – Volume 2 No. 1

Welcome to the Teens!

Last year was definitely a pre-teen time for Puppicasso and me.  Many new creations, activities, and attitudes were realized — but our offline life got in the way of our blogging life.  And since the world didn’t end, he decided to resume his predictions.  So, the first part of this year will be a cleaning house and catching up on the life of Pupp.

The motto of this year will be, “Always put one paw in front of another, and go forward no matter what.”

One Small Paw for Pupp...

One small paw for Pupp…

... one giant leap for Puppi-kind.

… one giant leap for Puppi-kind.

We wish you a Happy 2013!  Enjoy this Millennium’s entry into puberty — hormones will rage and change will be the constant!

Puppicasso wishes to extend a special shout out to Neil Armstrong for use of his likeness and spirit… he is missed.

Puppi and the very Icey Day

Puppi was put on a really strict diet. One can of food a day – half in the morning with pills, repeat at night.

No treats.

The combination of diet and steroids has made for one very cranky Puppi.

As I tried to figure out what I had to do to satiate Puppi’s well-being, I was off to the cast and crew screening of a short film I made, Breaking Ice.  Appropriately enough, I had crew gifts made that were mood cups that changed color when cold…

Icey.

Coming back from the rink where the screening was held, I literally stumbled on the cure to his chewiness… Ice Cubes.  (I fell carrying the ice chest that contained them, and ending up using the cubes to ice my shins.)

He used them to teeth as a puppy-Pupp, and now they cooled his anger towards the diet.

Ice is usually thought of as cold and unforgiving, but using it in tiny chunks made Puppi’s life right now more warm and inviting.

Yay Ice!

I don’t know if he has told you lately, but Puppicasso has been very ill lately.

He is on the road to recovery but it is slow going.

He had to give the vet a stool sample, and this is what we thought they meant…

And a stool sample on sale too!

He really is trying to keep a comic look on his illness.  I love that about the Pupp.

As you know Puppicasso is scared of his own farts and the sound of farts in general.

Today he jumped at the start of sprinklers turning on, I guess they sounded like wet farts.

Enough said.

Puppicasso found his red,

PuppiRed

white and blue.

Then he got efficient and found all three in an unlikely source…

Color Trifecta.

Red, White and Band-Aid Blue.

He had a safe and sane holiday, protected from the fireworks. It is such a tough holiday for dogs in general, I am happy he survived through another one.

July 1, 2012…. Happy Mid Year!

This is exactly the midpoint of this year.  Most of us only make New Year’s Resolutions; or really attend to projects at their beginning point; or only have great starts to their races –

but Puppicasso knows that the hinge of everything lies in survival of getting through the bend of the middle.

To that he asks me, “What’s your mid-year resolution?”  He never waits for my response to any question since he has other needs at present, always at present.

Those needs take us to the outside, and that’s where we see them, the unexpected guests…

ducks in the alley in the Valley.

Puppi surveys the pair of Quacks.

I have seen ducks walking around before, but never in the civilized wild, only in parks or in Memphis at the Peabody Hotel, but never casually strolling.  And indeed never in an alley.

So Puppi and I follow the pair of ducks to the midpoint of the alley, I think they got wind of us, so as not to disturb their unique path, we turned back around and ventured elsewhere for his business, which included the usual mischief of barking at Shadow and finding a compost heap to do a quick face rub in.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgM_wycelGw&feature=youtu.be

By the time we got back, the ducks were at the top of the alley again, where we found them the first time.

Maybe they are in purgatory, but more likely they are at their midpoint.  Puppicasso says that I can give myself a break at my midpoint –  I don’t have to meet my New Year’s goal, simply start a Mid-year one.

Thanks Puppi, I needed that do-over.

9. Puppicasso Predictions #143

It is official, I have lost the touch.

Maybe my fingerprints rubbed off.

Maybe the glass of technology doesn’t respond to my touch, because I am no longer human.  The sensitivity needed to power my phone has vanished.

I think of this lack of clear communication, and I wonder how Puppicasso deals with technology.  I don’t think an Ipad is paw-sensitive.  His paws lack qwerty skills.  A mouse to him is something that cats eat.

In protest of these human technological requirements he is going very old school – Elizabethan in fact…

Puppicasso sporting his E-collar…           All the rage this season.

In letting his natural sense of style come through today, his counterparts are drawn to his charismatic fashion sense…

Shadow, the neighbor dog, wants Puppi’s latest fashion.

Puppicasso’s technology-free morning is complete, but I am not going to be the one to tell him that his inner microchip always keeps him under technology’s grasp.

No.

It is not always negative thing.

No can save Puppicasso from scratching his butt into oblivion.

No can save you from expanding yours waistline.

No just means enough of the same.

No pictures for Puppicasso today… just pills and rest in a cone.  I think I will follow his lead.

11. Puppicasso Predictions #141

Long time no look.  It seems that Puppicasso has been predicting my neglect with taking good care of my balances in life.  Too much work for others, self-neglect, Pupp-neglect.  So without further procrastination, I turn to cleaning up the neglected areas, in doing so I find what Puppi has been trying to show me.

He was not feeling well, so I took him the vet yesterday (see PP #140, that has yet to be written), and now I am on Puppicasso watch for any signs of real trouble.  This worries me so, but in such worrisome moments, I find that it is better to maintain some normalcy — so off for Pupp’s regular, old morning walk.

And here is what he found…

Pennies in the Grass.

Pupp is very proud to find cash.

He has to sniff out the loot to count it.

He found 28 pennies to be exact.  He got the winnings from a natural slot machine and didn’t want to revel in the new found fortune — remember he is constantly seeking balance, in Puppicasso-style.

He found one more thing on the way back home.

Ivory love.

So it seems that Ivory hearts trash cans, and so does Puppi.

And off we go to the next thing, not looking back (well sort of not looking that way).

12. Puppicasso Predictions #61

Having a vacation doesn’t mean spending a lot of money.  I am not talking traveling or staycation (I hate that term), but a break… a rest.

It can be as simple as silencing the phone or going to the bathroom (I believe that’s why it is called a room of rest.)

Puppicasso needed a break from being a Valley Dog, and as I had some business in Orange County, I took my Puppi companion along for the ride.

We happened upon a farmer’s market.   Bought some blood oranges and had a tamale there, and that tamale reminded me of my favorite attraction at Disney’s Callifornia Adventure that is no longer…

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_ai3T8ylGs    MASECA DOG!

for the full video — http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIZNYitBxPk

Puppi and I boarded that train of thought and headed over to Downtown Disney, where we parked for free in 3D!

3D - without the glasses.

And he just had to be green…

"Recycle." - Jiminy Cricket

please…

Oh yeah... That's the way to do it.

And that was it.  A brief lunchtime rest in the land of Disney.

Upon arriving at home, Puppi quickly sacked out…

Puppi=done.

I caught him wearing the tag from his visit to Disney Studios a while back.

Disney Studios says "Be Our Guest."

Maybe Puppicasso is really a Disney Dog after all.

Happy Leap Day!

I’ve always had this fascination for a day that only chooses to show up every four years.  I think it has such flair, never wanting to over stay its welcome.  I’ve thought about people born on this day, are almost measured in dog years minus three.

Puppicasso doesn’t equate things in terms of age, but he has imagine if he himself was born on Leap Day, would he have to multiply his age by 11 years?  Oy, he feels old enough already.  Although this day is a celebration to him, of a little more time to play, so I give you Puppicasso-a-leaping.

http://youtu.be/G_4jESA4PRk

With all this celebration in the morning, we were saddened to find out that afternoon that Davy Jones from the Monkees had died suddenly.  Puppicasso and I are with heavy heart, because as we got an extra day, that day became his last.

Puppi dedicates his favorite Monkees song to him:

Puppicasso couldn’t have predicted this.  Even though we all know in the back of our mind when our pets grow old, that we will have to deal with their passing, but it surprises us nonetheless.

This weekend, my 96-year-old Grandma’s dog, her beloved Honey Bear slipped away from her time on the Earth.  Honey Bear was a constant companion to my Grandma, ever since she was a rescue pup when I worked on “Lethal Weapon 4″ in 1998.  Our director on the movie, Richard Donner, is a big advocate of Animal Rescue, and Honey Bear was part of a litter found by one of my Editor’s on the show, Dallas Puett.

My Grandma being my Grandma, calls everything Honey-This and Honey-That, so when this Chow/Shepard ball of fur arrived at her doorstep, she was dubbed, Honey Bear.  She was a big, sweet lovable soul and lived a long doggie-life — now she is free from her physical pain.

Our pets cannot talk to us, they can only care for us, and we can only care for them — no other relationship in our lives can be this pure and free of any ulterior motives.  Puppicasso knows this fact intimately.

RIP Honey Bear… My family holds your love in our heart.

Groundhog Day again and again and again (I know it was yesterday, but it is still going on…)

“Here I go again.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69qfXMZoiwA

They keep repeating the same thing every year… http://www.groundhog.org/

and ignore the foremost predictor of our time…

Puppicasso got typecast when he was a puppy Pupp.

Flashback to his first Halloween:

Meatballoween

He played the Tramp from “Lady and the Tramp” in the Haute Dogs Howloween parade in Long Beach, CA.

He's a Pupp, and I love him.

His costume was simple, but he pulled it off with panache…

Tramp Seeks Lady...

...to share spaghetti.

Flashback to the present day, when Puppi’s mom actually got to take a walk outside during her lunch hour at work.

The stroll ended up detouring in the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, where I saw–

Toto.

One of the most beloved pup stars of all time, Dorothy’s companion.

It got me to thinking that Toto had been typecast his whole life as a Kansas Spitfire with a heart of gold.  Although I guess, is not such a bad bit of typecasting, like John Wayne was always the hero.  There are worse things you can be than saving-the-day-well-liked-go-to-kid.

Puppicasso however, prides himself on taking his career path to the next level, even if that level is still sniffing the ground.

He refuses to be the “Pupptag Repair Dog” or “Mr. Whippupple” or even always being referred to as “The Tramp” –  despite the fact that he loves the movie, and reminds me often that he helped me write a great live version of the classic story  “Lady and the Tramp Redux” (hint, hint, still shopping it around town, Puppicasso would like to get into the WGA soon, just for health benefits of course)

He just feels adamantly that typecasting is putting him into an unfair classification of skills that only call into his abilities the roles and job labels that he has had in the past.  But with that protest I still try to measure exactly what his skill set is or at least is length in inches…

Puppicasso is always on the off-season.  He is fully into baseball mode today.

I can’t get him to give me his picks for the Puppi Bowl.

And he could care less who is singing in the Kitty Half-time show, even if he owns all of her albums.

This means you, Puppicasso!

He doesn’t care about reading signs, unless he wrote them himself.

He's a selective reader.

So, he dashes onto the baseball field.

So fast, he's a Fuzz Fly!

And plays every position…

Pupp Dugg Out

On the Pawball.

… and watches himself play ball from the stands.

Bleacher Bumpupp

And with a full count and one out left and bases loaded in the two-minute warning in the bottom of 9th quarter for sudden death penalty kicks and one more round and lap to go on the 18th hole…

Puppi in a pickle sliding and...

Stealing Home.

If home is where the heart is or somewhere adjacent, or even nearby then…

Puppicasso stole my heart home plate and the umpire called it safe (even if the ump still needs to sweep it up).

While I worked, Puppicasso partied.

He became Puppi Hilton.

These are the Pupparazzi Pics.

Puppi found under the table.
How did he get here?

Little did I know, that he was up to some wild table-dancing…

Table Dance.
Puppi Sundialing.
Puppi-Go-Round

Despite his heavy partying, he decides to leave his wild ways behind

and find a great cause to fill the void that any period of excess can create.

Leaving his debauchery behind.

He goes from being a Hilton to being a Good Samaritan.

Puppicasso sees this post, and gets the word out:

Poor Pali.

He is a stranger to Pali, but he hopes that posting this pole-post in this blog-post –

Pali’s family will find their lost friend.

20. Puppicasso Predictions #28

Puppicasso spent another weekend day of work with his momma.

This is what he looked like in the morning when I told him he had to go in:

MNS

Pupp needed a double es...

and a donut.

In spite of his reluctance, he knew he good make a good situation out of a boring one.  He decided to make a Puppicasso Prediction work for him, so for today, he threw on his PR hat and turned PP#28 into shameless “Puppi-Plugs”.

Puppi owns the Fire Plug Puppic Relations Firm.

XLR Plugs

Pupp doesn't listen to "His Master's Voice"...

... he speaks to it. He is his own Master's Voice.

Puppicasso is in a state tonight.  A state of the union.

He tells me not to disturb his viewing of the speeches.  He watches the Presidential teleprompter readings and claims that the SOU is an amazing workout video… way better than Puppi-90-x.

The squats he does every time the house applauds totally keeps his quads firm.

And don’t get him started on how the Republican Rebuttal Response shapes his rebutt.

He is exhausted now. He uses a faux fur pillow chair to support his chin.

Puppilow.

Glad this workout only happens once a year.

Taking the Hair of the Dog today for a work hangover — the cure for one job by doing another and another and another.

Puppicasso and I worked too late last night on our day job….

Pupp uses the floor at work for support.

Many people have different theories about how to cure a hangover.  With the football playwoofs over, and the teams for the Super Bowl in place, many losing fans are probably trying to nurse a few self-inflicted wounds with their own version of the HOTD.

For Puppicasso, it is simple:  there is nothing that shopping, stale popcorn and Dublin Dr Pepper can’t cure.

Dr Pup Dublin Picasso

He especially loves the imperial cane sugar in this blend of the soda drink.

He imbibes another cold Dublin.

He was very sad to find out today that the Dublin plant was closed forever last week.

http://www.gosanangelo.com/news/2012/jan/21/dr-pepper-falls-flat-in-dublin/

Now, he wishes he hadn’t drunk those two bottles so quickly.  He knows that some formulas for success and great flavors don’t come around that often…  Planets and Minds and Hearts have to align just so.

Puppicasso knew that the ultimate cure for too much work in my life was for me to take on another project.

This one was a great hair to put on ye’ ol’ career wounds that I had been nursing:

(Puppi enjoys taking hangover cures back to those Shakespearean times when that guy kept coining words and phrases. Who did he think he was anyway, Shakespeare?)

Pupp is a Pure Bibliophile.

The cure came to me over a post-wedding breakfast in Tuscon.  That project was Book Club which just premiered on Hulu today at 12:00 A.M. !

Noah Longo, Jessica Runck, and Katey Kowalik (the producers and directors of the series) are the type of folk that you want to work for — ones that appreciate and respect your time, energy, and ideas.

So, Puppicasso generously let me interrupt his blogging for a shameless plug of the series:

Hair+Rain=Bad

Puppicasso was about to walk in the rain when I snapped his “Before” picture.  He yawned with excitement.

Before.
Aftermath.

Uh oh, here comes the dreaded blow-dry.

PuppiDry

He is philosophically opposed to using blow dryers.  It is not that he wants to conserve electricity, we all know that he is not green, in fact his fur is every shade but.  He looks like he had highlights put in his coat, but that rainbow is his real fur color.

He enjoys going natural and certainly doesn’t like the results of an un-dampening by technological means.

Puppipuffro

He believes in unfettered hair.

He knows that fresh air flow is the best technique to purge a Bad Hair Day.

Puppi using his wet fur as a billboard.
Now he is a Burma-Shave Sign.

Having a/ Bad Hair Day?/ Just Shake/ It Off!/ Or Smell/ Like/ Wet Dog/ Puppma-Shave.

25. Puppicasso Predictions #10

Birthdays have always been anticlimactic for me.

When I was in school, all of my classmates were three years ahead of me, so as they got to drive, I got to see PG-13 movies… They got to drink, and I got to vote – yay for me.  I was afraid to celebrate them simply because, they had been “done” before by all my friends.  So, I stopped really celebrating them for a long, long time — I am talking dog years.

Which brings me to a certain little one that is turning four today, (or is that 28?).

Today is Puppicasso’s Fourth Birthday!

Well, at least that’s what I’ve declared, (he’s a rescue, so he is constantly misplacing his birth certificate, and can’t stand paperwork.)

I had a mini celebration for him:

Happy (not so)

Puppi Birthday

He was not amused.

He doesn’t liked to be fussed over, besides he has gone through seven years in a day.

He turns to his bottle:

I wonder what is in his black skull bottle.

Oh, it must be shame.

He kept drinking for a long time.

Moon Shine Eyes.

But at some point the drinking did the trick.  He was over himself.  He got out of his self-absorbed stupor and got to partying.

He celebrated his new year with a noise maker.

He kept blowing into his noisemaker, and he made me stop worrying about my birthday too (hard to worry with all that racket).

He keeps wanting me to save my date, like saving a future memory.

I don’t dare go against him, after all I think he has some moonshine left for me.

So April 5th, here I come.
