Hi Kathy,

Again, the NJ chapter is without compare for its nonstop programming!

My question: What is Craft Day? I understand “Free”–of course. But I don’t understand what craft day is, what happens during it, what people need to bringto it, if anything, or be prepared to do there, and so on.

I have the same question as Susan. I’m anxious to hear more about Craft Day and what it involves. I see there are 2 2hour sessions. When we register, does that include both sessions?

Susan,

It is providing members two “How to” craft workshops (first workshop followed up the second). I do not have the exact titles right now. But they will be focused on strengthening your writing or illustrating. The picture book and novel writing workshops probably will include writing exercises. They will be geared for experienced writers, but offer new writers a chance to discover the things they will need to consider as they develop their skills.

Attenteeds may be asked to bring pieces of their work to use during the workshop, but I do not have the specific details at this time. Anyone signing up for a specific track will receive an e-mail letting them know what to bring. I also will keep everyone posted on this blog.

I plan to use your post this week – very cute and interesting. Sorry I didn’t get back, but I have been sick. Took antibiotics, but two days after stopping the meds, it came back worse. I’m on another antiboitic, but that doesn’t seem to be working. I guess it is back to the doctor’s tomorrow.

It was fun and great seeing you again. I think some good connections were made. I missed seeing the Jimmy Hendrix Poster you gave to Steve. I think there is a Jimmy Hendrix book planned to come out. Was he involved in that?

I just left Susan a comment. Yes, it is one workshop, followed by the second. You can sign up right now. I wouldn’t wait, because space is limited. The Registrstion Form is included in the post.

If you want to stay for dinner with the eidtors and hear our dinner speaker, agent Stephen Fraser, then you will have to sgin up for that and pay the $45 we have to pay for your dinner.

Please let me know if there are still things you don’t understand, after reading what I wrote to Susan.

On the afternoon of November 5th, we are having a Craft Day and booksigning with editor Cheryl Klein from Scholastic/Arthur A. Levine. Cheryl will conduct a two hour writing class with members, followed by a booksigning of her new book SECOND SIGHT. This will be offered free to any SCBWI member. Space is limited, so you will have to sign up to reserve a spot and at some point we may have to close the doors. Anyone who wants to stay and have dinner with Cheryl after the booksigning can do so, but dinner is not being offered for free.

The following day, November 6th, Cheryl will participate in our Mentoring Workshop and do one-on-one critiques along with three other agents and editors that attend. At the same time, we will have our semi-annual Illustrators’ Day with two Art Directors.

It is all taking place at the Hyatt Regency in Princeton, NJ. I will be posting more info about Cheryl’s class, the discount price to stay overnight at the hotel, and price of November 6th programs. I will announce other agents and editors as I confirm them and provide all the details after the conference. I just wanted you to know so you could save the date.

Hope you find this exciting. It is a way to reward you for supporting the NJSCBWI.

Dear Kathy, I’m a SCBWI member, but I live in Aruba. I have Cheryl Klein’s Second Sight book, it arrived yesterday and I’m reading and loving it already. I would love to participate, but I’m always too far away and unable to participate in any of these events. Is there a possibility I can join in via Skype? For me, it’s all about the information. I live on a small island and the only way I can grow as a writer is, if I can get information from abroad. I hope you can help me out, I would really appreciate it.

Kathy, it’s good to remember there are days AFTER the conference Maybe it would be good to put this up again at that time, so you can worry about a list THEN
