Rick Horgan has been hired to serve as vice president and executive editor at Scribner, an imprint at Simon & Schuster.
Here’s more from the press release: “In a distinguished career that has spanned decades, Rick Horgan has worked with more than 400 authors and edited—across a variety of genres—more than ninety national bestsellers, including the recently published The Good Spy by Kai Bird. Horgan’s books have won numerous awards and honors, such as the Pulitzer Prize for Tom Reiss’ The Black Count, and the PEN Literary Award for Marshall Jon Fisher’s A Terrible Splendor.”
Some of the authors he has worked with in the past include Bill Gates, Condoleezza Rice, Jay Leno, Maria Shriver, Pete Sampras, David Baldacci, Jeffrey Archer, and John Lescroart. With this new role, Horgan will acquire both commercial fiction and nonfiction manuscripts. In nonfiction, Horgan will focus on memoirs, politics, sports, current events, biographies, and business books.

Penguin Group (USA) has relaunched Dutton Guilt-Edged Mysteries as a digital imprint. Dutton editor-in-chief Ben Sevier will oversee the imprint.
Dutton Guilt-Edged Mysteries will publish original crime short stories and novellas as Penguin eSpecials. Every year, the imprint will publish “at least one writer” from Book Country‘s online fiction workshop community.
Two projects in the works include Murder in Mumbai, a debut novella by NPR news editor Krishnadev Calamur and an original Dismas Hardy story by prolific crime novelist John Lescroart. Follow this link for more details on submission guidelines.

The new serial novel No Rest for the Dead features writing contributions by 25 thriller writers, including Sandra Brown, Jeffrey Deaver, R.L. Stine, Gayle Lynds and Alexander McCall Smith. Novelist David Baldacci wrote the introduction to the charity novel.
Strand magazine managing editor Andrew Gulli and Lamia Gulli edited four-year project. Proceeds from the Simon & Schuster novel will be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, honoring the memory of Andrew’s mother.

International Thriller Writers named Goosebumps author R.L. Stine (pictured, via) Thrillermaster for the ThrillerFest VI. Stine recently launched the Hall of Horrors series with book one, Claws, in March.
In addition, Fall of Giants author Ken Follett will be teaching a novel writing class during the CraftFest portion of the annual conference. The conference will also feature AgentFest–a two-hour period where aspiring writers can pitch their proposals in three-minute sessions. Sixty agents have agreed to participate.
Other special guests who will be in attendance include authors Robert Crais, Diana Gabaldon, and John Lescroart. The event will be held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City from July 6th to July 9th.
