1. DVD Cover Designs - Blade Runner & Casablanca

So it's been a HELL of a long time since I last posted anything and there have been quite a few changes in my life. Most notably I am back in school taking a three year Graphic Design program. I'll post more later but here are my two latest works - DVD redesigns for Blade Runner and Casablanca. The assignment was to create an entirely new cover for a randomly assigned film in a style of our choosing. I got ambitious and decided to make two! For Blade Runner I went with a 1950's pulp novel look, and for Casablanca I went with an early 1960's pop art look. Hope ya digs! Comments and constructive criticisms welcome.

OH! Additionally, my blog address has changed (to): http://markreslater.tumblr.com

It was done with pencil, sharpie and watercolour on 10x12" sketch-paper, and took approximately five (5) hours to complete. The second image is a preview of the third conceptualization of Isadora; to see the full image, click HERE. Thanks for looking! Hope ya digs.

11. 31 Days of Halloween & Zombie Portraits!

Hi everyone! It's been quite a long time since last I posted here but I figured it was high time I shared what I've been up to (and am up to). I think I posted the illustrations I did this summer for a book on Gender Studies being published through UofT Press - if I didn't and people are interested please just let me know. In the meantime, it's October which means Halloween will soon be upon us once again and I for one am ecstatic! As always I'm doing my custom zombie portraits - for more information on those you can visit TheHorde's main page here. Here are two zombie portraits I just finished up - one for an editor at the Barrie Examiner (local paper) and one for the creator of the great website, Zombie Info.

In other news, I am once again doing my 31 Days of Halloween personal sketch-card series. For information on how to pick up one or more of these cards, I invite you to head on over to my blog! Sadly, I have fallen behind and am struggling to play catch-up but here's what I've got so far (October 1st - 7th):
Roddy McDowall as Peter Vincent from the original Fright Night
Harold Ramis as Egon from Ghostbusters (SOLD!)

13. Dexter Samples 7 & 8

Here are my latest Dexter samples - one of Jennifer Carpenter as Deborah Morgan and the other of Julie Benz as Rita Morgan. I think I made Deborah's lips a little too big but nailed the eyes. Apart from a little adjustment to the eyes I think I got Rita pretty well spot on.

Two of my newest sample Dexter cards - John Lithgow as the menacing Arthur Mitchel ("The Trinity Killer"), and David Zayas as Sgt. Angel Batista. I think I'm getting back into the swing of likenesses again - it's a very satisfying feeling. Hope ya digs!

18. Happy Anti-Valentine's Day!

For all you folks who, like my fiancee and I, believe that Valentine's Day is a stupid, commercial-driven holiday designed to sell chocolates, cards and bears nobody really wants, here are two zombies in love. I encourage everyone out there to celebrate Anti-Valentine's Day in much the same way I intend to: pick up some bacon cheeseburgers and watch movies like "Valentine" and "My Bloody Valentine." Enjoy!

19. The Missing Link

Here's an illustration I just finished up this week. I was hired out by a local graphic design company to create an illustration for a major mining company's newsletter. They originally wanted a caveman inserting the latch into the rod, but that later changed into a Regular Joe doing the work with the caveman standing in the background holding the outdated parts. Apparently they thought having a caveman doing the work might be insulting; implying that "even a caveman could do the job." I've included my original concept sketch below.

20. Dreadful Base Card - MFZ

Here is the coloured version of the base-card that will be included in the Monsters Freaks & Zombies sketch-card set, coming soon from Cult-Stuff. The good folks at Cult-Stuff are graciously providing Lance Sawyer and I with some free promotional space for our book, Dreadful - using this image and one of Lance's as base-cards. On the back of each of these cards will be the original Dreadful cover, with all the important information on where to go to order a copy and how to commission us.
