1. National Year of Reading launch at Wollondilly Shire Council at Picton Library

Jai Rowell MP for Wollondilly launching National Year of Reading with 'Ships in the Field'I drove down the freeway then turned off into beautiful countryside between green hills driving into picturesque Picton.

This was a very different launch with the children of the local schools appointed as junior ambassadors for the National Year of Reading.

This great concept by librarian Gail Dunn at Picton Library has engaged the community.

Member for Wollondilly Jai Rowell MP made time to celebrate reading in the community and launch the National Year of Reading in Wollondilly Shire.

Loved speaking to the kids about my JACK books, Ships in the Field and …..

The Reading Hour where across Australia it’s reading time – 6 pm 25th August.

Be in it and love2read.

Anna Pignataro's illustration of 'Ships in the Field' by Susanne GervayBlanche Clark’s small but beautiful review of ‘Ships in the Field’ touched me, as it captured the spirit of this journey into finding home and a place in new lands.

Loved her Verdict: ‘compassionate’

3. Ford Street Publishers -dynamic small publisher

Ford Street go where large publishers ‘fear to tread’ like:-

-F2M  transgender YA novel by Hazel Edwards & transgender author Ryan Kennedy

- young adult picture book ‘The Star’ by Felicity Marshall

-the ‘green’ picture book ‘The Gladdhouse’ by Paul Collins illustrated by Jo Thompson.

I’m excited by Ford St publishing my ‘Ships in the Field’ - my first picture book.

‘Ships in the Field’ is a deeply personal story inspired by growing up from a post war refugee family. It’s funny, sad, warm dealing with loss, hope, finding a new home.

Award winning illustrator Anna Pignataro understands as we both are part of the immigrant experience.

I was moved by Anna’s beautiful illustrations & concepts in her storyboard, at our meeting in Melbourne with editors Niki Horin editor & Meredith Costain.

Thankyou Paul Collins and Medith Costain for the delicious ‘rustic’ dinner in the Victorian heritage garden home – loved the environmental water tanks, fragrant garden, porch & the Barbie dolls.

Never knew Meredith’s secret – she’s the secret author of the Barbie tales. See Barbies on the piano.
