Aww. Didja miss these? It’s not like I see as many videos these days, y’know. Not for lack of interest. They just don’t float in front my nose the way they used to. Fortunately there are a couple that I’ve collected in my travels and I’m featuring them here today. They may be a bit old. You may have seen them 100 times before. But what the hey, right? Life is short.
First up, ALSC released the Newbery/Caldecott/Wilder reaction videos. Grab your popcorn and enjoy:
I just saw this next trailer online (thank you, Monica!) and I cannot convey to you the avarice I hold for anyone who has already seen this. It’s Matt Phelan’s latest. And it’s gorgeous:
Another trailer to follow. True, the violin brings to mind a kind of Ken Burns-y feel. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
A couple months ago young Marley Dias put out the call for middle grade black girl books. I missed the fact that she appeared on Ellen. Problem alleviated!
Thanks to Rita Williams-Garcia for the link.
I do not wish to take away from Travis Jonker his drop dead amazing compilation of peculiar I WANT MY HAT BACK videos he compiled. So I will just put one here and tell you to go to his site to see the rest.
This does my little 1984 heart good.
It’s summer. Everyone’s making summer reading videos. This is my library’s. My superintendent is sitting on a slide (at Penny Park, clearly). It gives me great respect for the man. Plus, check out that logo at the end. I hate to say it, guys, but I think my library hosts the most attractive summer reading t-shirt this year.
Hm. That would make a good blog post. . . .
And just to round this all out in a nice way, here’s the book trailer for Evan Turk’s The Storyteller (one of the most beautiful picture books of the year):
Happy 4th of July!

Keep your Master Chiefs, bearded Kratos, fancy flux capacitor powered hardware. E3 2016 had one of the best line ups for those of us who love big comic book experiences in gaming. Batman, Spider-Man, Walking Dead just to name a few. Here’s the games based on comic book characters we’re most excited for from E3 2016: Spider-Man […]
Thursday at E3 Comics Beat got a behind closed doors look at the first 30 minutes of Batman: The Telltale Series. With the caped crusader appearing in three other games in the next 18 months (4 if you count Arkham remastered), it’s looking like Telltale is poised to tell the best story out of […]
New York Comic Con, already one of the world’s biggest pop culture events, is expanding its reach via a deal with Blammo Events, a European gaming media company with. perhaps, the best name of all times. Select NYCC panel will be livestreamed to the Firstlook Festival, a Dutch gaming-focused event being held October 7-9 – […]
Injustice: Gods Among Us was a masterpiece of a game which let comic book fans and gamers alike vicariously live out their –smash up my action figures—fantasies. In 2017, NetherRealm Studios will finally bring the long awaited sequel to their hit fighting game with Injustice 2. At E3 in Los Angeles we got a hands […]
The day before E3 officially kicks off, or as some call it “Media Monday”, always boils down to a competition of sorts between two of the gaming industry’s titans; Microsoft vs. Sony. Every year this battle’s gravity can’t be compared to anything less than a heavyweight prizefight in Vegas. Unlike boxing, it’s ever rarely a draw. […]
On Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles, Telltale joined IGN to reveal the world’s first sneak peek at the next season of ‘The Walking Dead’ series, set to premiere this fall. Here’s what Telltale had to say in their official release: Clem returns and will play a key role, but this is a new story as […]
Lots of news coming out of the just wrapped EA press event for several highly anticipated titles like Mass Effect, FIFA and Battlefield; but perhaps the publishers developing crown jewel is the partnership with Lucas Film which has already given fans Star Wars Battlefront. During the Electronic Arts pre E3 press conference today, fans got […]
Telltale Games, with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment, today unveiled the first look at BATMAN – The Telltale Series ahead of its worldwide debut this summer. The game will see footage debut this week at E3 in LA. “We’ve been hard at work at Telltale creating an all-new iteration of the iconic Batman […]
Harry Potter is no stranger to the Lego treatment. The Harry Potter Series was transformed a few years ago into a Lego world in two separate video games. Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 and Lego Harry Potter: Years: 5-7 were popular games where you could play as a variety of the HP Series characters as well as exploring the world of Harry Potter in a new and exciting way.
Now Harry, Voldemort, and even Newt Scamander are heading to the Lego Dimensions game. Pottermore has reported that
16 new worlds are coming, including a new Harry Potter expansion pack on 27 September, to be closely followed by Fantastic Beasts.
Lego Dimensions is an expandable game series in which a variety of characters from different universes interact with one another. This means Batman and Harry Potter can team up and take on the Wicked Witch of the West.
In time for the E3 Expo, Lego has released a trailer for the newly expanded Lego Dimensions world. Harry Potter is heavily featured and there is a sneak peek of Newt Scamander in his new Lego form.

NetherRealm the developer that created the Mortal Kombat series is giving fans the sequel to their blockbuster hit Injustice: Gods Among Us. With E3 less than a week away, the official announcement trailer for Injustice 2 was posted online today. The game has been given […]
I was chatting with someone in PR prior to going to see a screening of Warcraft yesterday and he said in a comforting tone “It isn’t as bad as they say.” Considering it’s at 18% n Rotten Tomatoes, it would have to be pretty bad indeed. Maybe it was my lowered expectations, but I […]
Since its release in January, Lego Marvel’s Avengers has been entertaining kids and adults alike. The game has managed to expand on its MCU confines with content based on Captain Marvel, The Masters of Evil, and Civil War. Today the MCU’s surprise hit Ant-Man will join the game in the new downloadable content pack exclusive […]
The barrage of mobile Marvel games keeps coming. A few days ago Disney released Avengers Alliance 2. A sequel to the turn based social media game where players assembled strategic teams of heroes and villains to poke each other until you inevitably ran out of game currency. It was probably the only time you ever dug through […]
Earlier this week the hit video game Lego Marvel’s Avengers added a new Captain Marvel pack as part of Marvel’s “Women of Power” initiative for March. Fans got Carol in all her glory but you know…blockier. Like all the Lego versions of the characters we love she’s adorable and dangerous. What we didn’t know was […]
Today, Telltale Games published a new trailer for ‘Give No Shelter,’ the second of three episodes in The Walking Dead: Michonne – A Telltale Miniseries. The miniseries stars the iconic, blade-wielding character from Robert Kirkman’s best-selling comic books, portrayed in-game by award-winning actress Samira Wiley (Orange is the New Black). Haunted by her past and coping with unimaginable loss and regret, the […]
What started as a game for the PlayStation 2 is now a movie spawning the same game for the PlayStation 4. When it comes to paradox no characters have had bigger ones than the furry lombax named Ratchet and his tiny robot friend Clank. Games, comics, and now a movie; Wondercon was treated to a […]
Telltale games cemented their place in comics with the release of The Walking Dead: Michonne – A Telltale Miniseries. Set directly in the world of Robert Kirkman’s award-winning comic book series, the game explores Michonne across a three episode miniseries event. It’s one of the prime examples of how transmedia can add to the cannon of its source material. […]

Dark Horse Comics have been the most restless publisher of licensed comics based on video game franchises over the past two years. They’ve brought tentpole franchises such as Call of Duty, Tomb Raider, and the often times over looked Mirror’s Edge to comics. Among the biggest in their library has been the mega dollar printing […]

Telltale games announces Michonne mini series start date.
Marvel’s latest licensing partnership in mobile gaming had sparked interest in the days leading up to its release this past weekend. Avengers Academy key art looked fresh and compelling. A Japanese manga series based on the The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess video game will be released later this month. Readers will only be able to access this work through Shogakukan’s MangaOne app.
According to Polygon, Akira Himekawa, the pseudonym of two creatives who choose to remain anonymous, has been credited as the writer and artist behind this project. In the past, this duo has produced manga based on three other Zelda games: Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, and A Link to the Past.
Here’s more from Tech Times: “The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is an action-adventure game from Nintendo that originally released in 2006 for the GameCube and Wii. The story follows the hero Link as he tries to save Hyrule from an evil parallel dimension. Many Zelda fans and critics often consider Twilight Princess as one of the best Zelda games ever made.” (via ComicBook.com)

Two things:
The I Want My Hat video reminded me of this amazing emoji version of Sam and Dave Dig a Hole that Adam Rex tweeted a couple weeks ago

Also, thoughts on Snow White for Caldecott? Having only read the uncolored galley (twice), it’s near the top of my list. Amazing storytelling going on in this graphic novel.
I’m on board. He’s never won a Caldecott or a Newbery, though he does have a Scott O’Dell to his name.
