Sometimes I have characters in mind before they have a story. This weekend, I decided to send two such characters to a cafe in France so they would have the opportunity to meet. I figured they could get to know each other and decide whether or not there was more to their story. (As a side note, “le Lapin Sauté” is an actual cafe, but not in France–in Quebec City.)
I had a good time with all the various characters at the cafe. I suppose they all have their own story. Here’s a closeup, since it’s hard to see the detail sometimes on a screen.

I went to Modern British Sculpture at the Royal Academy with the redoubtable Terry Ryan. We found the fire escapes in the gallery to be more interesting than most of the works on show. My photo shows Terry creating an instant living sculpture entitled The Burning Man in Room 7. We did enjoy Damien Hirst's dead flies, but I think Terry's idea for a piece entitled Damien's Hearse needs to be built.

The League of Gentlemen Draughtsmen invited me to The Natural History Museum to do some drawing in public (without a safety net). I do enjoy drawing wildlife, but stuffed animals are so much more obliging. I got cramp drawing this African Openbill because I had to stand: the museum no longer provides folding chairs for artists. I blame the cuts.
But the best exhibits are the human specimens...there were hundreds to chose from in the Museum cafe.
