The University of Toronto’s speculative fiction journal, The Spectatorial, is currently looking for fiction, poetry, articles, essays, graphic fiction, novel excerpts, book/movie reviews, etc. Particularly interested in topics that touch upon other cultures and marginalized groups, whether it’s discussing literature no one has heard of from another country, or addressing social justice issue in a speculative work. Articles 500-1200 words, or pitched proposals for topics of interest. Deadline: ongoing.

The Cossack Review is looking for submissions of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, flash fiction and works in translation for their next print and online issues. Send 3-6 poems, one story, or one essay. Especially interested in thoughtful, diverse work.

KAPSULA is looking for pieces that speak to the concept of finality in art. More specifically, writers are asked to highlight a topic specific to the period that KAPSULA has been produced: 2013–2016. Smoky Blue Literary and Arts Magazine (NC), which explores the wide spectrum of the senior citizen’s life, seeks pieces for the next issue. Chrysalis (Canada) is creating a gardening zine, “Kill Your Lawn”, with the first print edition set to be released in late May. immix Magazine (US), a new online journal focused on social justice matters, seeks essays, personal narratives and political cartoons for their first issue. Length: 5000 words max. Topics must be related to social justice or other social matters. Encourages pieces on gender/sexuality, health, politics, and the environment. After first issue, rolling deadline.

Caitlin Press is seeking submissions by Canadian women, including queer and trans-women, for an anthology on Canada’s immigrants (migrants, refugees or others who identify with the immigrant label). Looking for deeper topics such as dealing with the sense of loneliness, alienation and disconnection from one’s old home, reconciling different cultural values, or coping with surprises (enjoyable, shocking or unpleasant) of one’s new life in Canada. Submit nonfiction 1000-4000 words. Submissions of the children of immigrants telling their parents’ stories will also be considered. Deadline: June 30, 2016.

Theories of HER is an experimental anthology open to submissions of poetry, streams-of-consciousness, flash fiction, micro non-fiction (essays, opinion pieces, personal anecdotes).
