At a time when bad news rules the airwaves and Internet blogs, let me introduce you to an oasis of civility. Zenyatta.com is growing in popularity and it's understandable. The people who visit and connect with one another on this site have created a community of positive messaging. In fact, if you go negative on the Zenny blog, others will let you know in no uncertain terms, "We don't do that here!"
For those who don't know, Zenyatta is considered, by many, to be the greatest thoroughbred racemare to ever set four hooves on a track. During her racing career she became known as, the Queen of the Sport of Kings. Beyond her obvious physical abilities that allowed her to go unbeaten in 19 out of 20 races, there is more to the story. Zenyatta thrilled fans with her pesonality-plus antics, dance moves, and come-from-behind wins that were more thrilling than any amusement ride. She became an addiction of choice for thousands of people who knew nothing about horse racing.
Now retired, after winning the prestigious Horse of The Year award, Zenyatta's popularity is GROWING. When she raced for a final time last November, she had some 54-thousand followers on FACEBOOK. The number is now closer to 70-thousand. Queen Z's Diary entries are followed by people not only in this country, but around the world. She recently scooped all turf reporters by being the first to tell her fans that she is in foal.
Of course, even a super mare needs a little help from her human friends. To type her messages of love, friendship, and encouragement, she turns to Dottie Ingordo-Shirreffs, wife of Zenyatta trainer, John Shirreffs. Dottie is also racing manager for owners, Jerry and Ann Moss. Team Zenyatta, the folks at Lane's End Farm where Z now resides, and fans, provide photos and information about numerous horse-related subjects.
Most of all, this is a community were civility lives. People are encouraged to follow examples of giving back, making a difference in the lives of others, and spreading the inspiration and joy that emanates from this marvelous mare and the humans who managed her career and care so brilliantly. Mostly, I encourage you to check it out for yourself and learn the sendoff that is now Zenyatta's signature - "Hugs To All!"
