OK Charlie, Lindsey, Mel, and Tiger, here's the deal: We are becoming hooked on watching wealthy celebrities become human train wrecks. It must be in our DNA, or as addictive a drug as some of the ones you've been taking. Otherwise, reality TV shows wouldn't have the appeal they do. We watch to find the secret to the quick buck made by being outrageous and controversial on the airwaves.
On the other hand, there's competition for your surreal grope for the spotlight. REAL LIFE. There are too many good people losing their jobs, their homes, and their way of life - and they matter. Celebrity bad behavior may be a distraction, but real folks are doing the hard work of finding new ways to help their neighbors through difficult times. There are people in the war zones of Libya crossing over into enemy territory to bring food and supplies they can't afford to spare. But, THEY are there. These are brave people giving to refugees they don't even know. People helping people. Money doesn't have relevance in situations like that.
Compassion does. What are you doing Charlie Sheen to improve the life of anyone other than yourself?
As the price of oil soars and more and more folks struggle, let's get our heads on straight. Our kids need to have role models who make a difference that's real. Let's start that movement at home - not on TV. Stress the value of reaching out to those in need.
Compassion is the new Currency. It increases in value the more you use it!
