1. Movie updates! Other updates!

Believe it or not, though the original news still feels somewhat recent, the Story of a Girl movie starts shooting this very week. THIS VERY WEEK! And I wanted to let you know that YOU can be there vicariously, through the wonders of social media, if social media is your thing.

For starters, you can follow me on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/sarazarrbooks/ – just because there are lots of pictures of notebooks, keyboards, stacks of books, and the surface of my desk and why wouldn’t you want to see all of that? I will also be on the movie set, but only for one day! So to see pictures from the whole shoot, I highly recommend you follow the lovely Ryann Shane, who is playing Deanna, and Kyra Sedgwick, the director, for starters. There are of course many many other wonderful people involved in front of and behind the camera.

It’s pretty mind-blowing for me to see all of this happening. Publishing is a strange enough business, but movie and TV are stranger still, and the number of people it takes to rally together and work their butts off and forage for money to make something like this come together in the midst of all the strangeness is staggering. I am really trying to sit back and enjoy this moment of watching others gather around something that started in my own brain, on my sofa, all alone, more than thirteen years ago.

Between this and some Gem & Dixie prepublication stuff going on this fall, it’s a little hard for me to keep my head out of the clouds and get the necessary work done on book #7 and on my class at the University of Utah. I’m looking forward to heading out to a few places this month to meet independent booksellers and talk to them about Gem & Dixie, and then, in November, being able to share the ARC with you–in person at NCTE & ALAN, and from a distance at YALLFest. And some time in the coming months will have Gem & Dixie tour info!

It’s been a long time since December 2013, which was the last time I had a new book out. At least, it’s felt long. I had some midlife shit to deal with during that time, and just lifelife, and I’m glad I had the podcast to keep me going. I’ll never say never, but I suspect the podcast is shuttered as I move back into prioritizing my writing. Less talk, less agonizing and analyzing, more action. That is the season I feel I am entering. I have no intention of taking down the archives, but am not planning on any new episodes.

Can’t wait to see you when I’m back out on the road next year, or maybe even before that.
