This is my most recent addition to my Ukiyo-e Heroes series. The subject is Simon Belmont form Castlevania.
I loved researching this one, because there's a huge tradition of Gothic fiction in Japan. Yoshitoshi, a 19th century artist, did a huge series of ghost stories. I borrowed from one to get Dracula's face just right. You can see it here.
And here is my image:

Hey, fellow inter-nerds! I can't believe how much this has blown up across the blogosphere. Heck, it's making me use silly words, like, "blogosphere"! Ha! Many of you have asked about when prints will go on sale. I've got some great surprises planned, and It'll take a little funding to make it happen. So I'll launch a Kickstarter campaign Aug 1. I promise to keep the prints very affordable. High quality, for an easy price. If you'd like to be on a pre-pre order list, please email me at thejedhenry (at) gmail (dot) com, and I'll record your email address. Or just follow me on facebook, and join our group "Ukiyo Nintendo", for sneak peeks! The Mario Kart sketch is up right now! :O
Image #2 of my Nintendo Samurai series. Granted, this guy is Capcom, but I just couldn't leave him out. What can I say, I have a thing for arm cannons. :) Also, can you name the bosses?
This is my first in a series. More to come!
Hot off the sketchbook! Here are some sketches for my 2013 book, "Good Night, Mouse!" This is some serious behind-the-scenes stuff.
RAAARRR!
Hey, friends! "I Speak Dinosaur!" is my first book as both writer and illustrator. It's available on Amazon.
Here's an exploratory illustration for a novel I'm collaborating on. My friend, Noelle Carter, is writing. There's something I love about the world Noelle is creating.
This is a little project I've been working on. Pony has a competitive spirit, but no matter how hard he tries, he's no match for a unicorn.
I've been working with my good friend, Noelle Carter on a middle grade novel called "Tiff Sharkhammer". "Shark" because she has two rows of teeth, like a shark. And "hammer" because she's a fourth grade immortal, endowed with the powers of Thor. Her adversaries include Lucky (based on Loki) and Principal O'Denn (based on Odin). Tiff's not too bright, but she makes up for it by smashing things with her hammer – truly a worthy role model for all children.
Here's another sample I did for Midge and Sprout. A publisher is considering it for an early reader series. Fingers crossed!
Back in January, I got it in my head that I wanted to make an iPad game. I had it all planned out, but in the end, I decided my busy life can't handle any more projects.
This is a rough mockup of the overall look. It's a detective game set in feudal Japan. Maybe someday I'll have the time to make it.
