1. Sea Of Bath, Captain's Journal: Ship's Entry...

It must be duly noted, that Fireboat Captain Bell is none other than story artist, director, and writer, Mike Bell.  I had the privilege of meeting Mike upon my return to DreamWorks.  Funny and likeable, Mike Bell is a man worthy of patrolling shipping lanes with a pug.

6. Dave Pimentel's Sketchbook!

Evoke by DreamWorks story supervisor, David Pimentel is a remarkable collection of some of his favorite sketches over the years all beautifully bound.  I should keep my copy at work for all to see, but I just picked it up and wanted to enjoy it over the weekend!

7. The Sea Of Bath!

My book has arrived!  I guess it’s available…NOW!

The book turned out really nice largely due to the talented staff at Sourcebooks Jabberwocky.  They’ve added a lot of nice details to the book.  I am in their debt.

I am grateful to my editor, Rebecca Frazer and project editor/art director, Kelly Barrales-Saylor for their support, talent, and expertise.

And to my literary agent Jennifer Unter, thank you for believing in rubber ducks and a sleepy old seafarer.

8. Q POP!

My friend Chris Mitchell is opening Q Pop, a shop/gallery in the historic Little Tokyo area of Los Angeles.  Check out his blog and help him decide what color to paint his store!  No doubt, Q Pop will offer rare, fun, and unique merchandise!

12. Wally...

I wanted to give a special nod to our family pug, Wally.  We took him on our recent trip.  He's an excellent traveler and has a particular fondness for hotels.  Now I know why Kay Thompson used a pug in Eloise.

14. Um...

Okay, so I ran into R2-D2 this morning in a hotel lobby.  He waltzed right up to me burpin' and a chirpin'!  I had this stupid grin that I could not pry off of my face if I tried.  This is one of my all-time favorite STAR WARS characters!  He was very humble and polite for a guy who has saved the universe numerous times.

15. STAR WARS Days at LEGOLAND!

I'm behind on my daily color sketches, but my family and I just returned from a weekend in Carlsbad, California where we had the good fortune to experience LEGO STAR WARS DAYS at LEGOLAND!

16. Also On My To-Do List: Skateboard Decks!

"Zombie"
(digital - Illustrator CS4)

I had the pleasure of meeting the "Skateboard Mom", Barb Odanaka a few years back.  We were both promoting our books at an area school. Lucky for me, she appeared at the school a day after my visit.  She puts on quite the show apparently!

Through her, I learned of some print houses that will print your design on a skateboard!  How cool is that?

It's been a while, but maybe someday soon I'll get the chance to reconnect with the Skateboard Mom, talk to some people I know, get them to talk to some people they know, then get the Skateboard Mom to talk to the people she knows, and maybe get some charity-auction-action going!

Some of my fellow artists at DreamWorks have started an on-going "Sketch-of-the-Day" jam fest.  I don't know if I can keep up with these guys, but it sure looks fun!  Check out the links I've listed!  They include Jeff Snow, Dave Derrick, Jenny Lerew, Steve Macleod, Mike Lester, and Dave Pimentel.

... And I had just one request, to see the ocean.
I didn't feel the need to swim in it, not yet!  I just wanted to see it.

25. KAMIKAZE!

various logo concepts and designs for "KAMIKAZE!"
(digital - Illustrator 10)
(bottom: early graphite sketch)

I got to try my hand at designing a logo for GenusApps.com.  It was a lot of fun and founders Helen Cho Anthos and Melissa Pope are really great.  In the end, I think they called it KAMIKAZE!.  At one time, they were distributing the iphone version of my self-published venture, Rocket Town, (which is now being retooled).  Since their inception, Genus Apps (the parent to KAMIKAZE!) has acquired numerous properties.  I'm sure they are distributing digital comics for the new iPad.

KAMIKAZE! is a TM of GenusApps.
