26. Illustration Friday: Satellite

When I read this weeks IF theme satellite the first thing I thought of was Sputnik, which was launched in the late fifties.  So space age futuristic yet so retro.  Here's how my mind worked.  My version of futuristic fashionista Jane Jetson modeling her uber chic retro style with her new sputnik earrings!

Aren't they just FAB!

27. Whoooo knew?

My daughter is going to a baby shower this weekend and said the mother has picked a theme of baby owls for the nursery.  She was having trouble finding a card to give with her gift so I designed one for her.  It also happened to fit into the "new baby" theme of our greeting card design exchange group where I work!  Win, win!  Apparently the baby owl nursery theme is a growing trend!  Tweaked it and I'll be adding this to my Etsy!

28. A Joy to Watch: Pete Revonkorpi

Okay, time to share the work of another of my favorite artists.   Pete Revonkorpi has a very unique style and posts some of his in-progress videos on youtube.  I love the fact that even though he works digitally, he still does it in a completely organic and painterly style.  I could just watch him work for hours.  Hope you enjoy it too!

32. Gonna don the 3-d glasses yet again... :D

Through the years of my son growing up, we've been fortunate to have been turned on to quite a few things that we otherwise probably wouldn't have.  Such as Pogs (remember those?) Pokemon, Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon  (and anime in general).  When he was eleven we went to see Spirited Away where I first fell in love with the awesome talent of animation master Hayao Miyazaki.  So when "Avatar: The Last Airbender" came on Nickelodeon he insisted we all check it out.  It was well done and we liked it but by then he was quite a bit older it never became one of our must watch shows.

But now M. Night Shyamalan is producing the movie in 3-D (and 2-D).  It is coming out in July!  I'm pretty excited and we all plan to definitely watch it at IMax.

34. Illustration Friday: Early

Okay, I am cheating a little this time, posting a work done quite a while ago, but which portrays this weeks IF "Early"theme perfectly.  This is acrylic on canvas board.  Please excuse the quality, it is a scan of a photo of the actual painting.  I really need to do more traditional works, I miss playing with paint.  Peacock at sunrise.

35. Soooo proud to announce...!!!!!

I am so proud to announce that the company that commissioned me (along with some other talented artists) to create some biblical images has launched their site!!!  They were one of the best clients I've ever had the pleasure of working with.  Their' how to install' video features my Noah's Ark piece, and also shows a glimpse of my Jonah and the whale piece on the wall when they are finished!  I just can't stop smiling right now! ^.^  Please join me in wishing them every success by visiting their site and spreading the word!      Scripture Images

44. Illustration Friday: Rescue

Between work at the day job, and designing a logo this week not a lot of time. So I'm posting a piece that was commissioned not too long ago by a company producing vinyl wall art of biblical images.

45. Beautiful Animated Short

The amazing strides being made in 3D animation just staggers the mind. The following "Descendants" is a 14-minute animated short that was created for a diploma project by Heiko van der Scherm and Holger Schoenberger at the Institute of Animation. The two main characters are flowers voiced by Whoopi Goldberg and Christy Scott-Cashman. It is beautifully done. To find out more about it visit the website.

47. Why I Have a Day Job...

I've started working part-time at Bic Graphics again. There were a number of reasons, my husband would like to one day retire, we have a mortgage, we like paying our bills on time, etc. The biggest is now I can spend more of my creative time on my own art and actually enjoy the creative process. I seemed to be getting further and further away from that. Although I've had some wonderful relationships with my clients, more and more the scenario was becoming like the following video example produced by Scofield Editorial, Inc. This is what Graphic Designers actually encounter on an amazingly regular basis. Seriously funny, but sadly true.

50. New Year Resolutions...

I think one of my new years resolutions should definitely be to post more often! Time seems to get away from me. I must learn to manage it better. For this post I am featuring the beautiful pencil art of Thomas Sewall Brown also known as Copper Age. Well, actually Copper Age is the brain child of Thomas and Brynneth N Colvin. Anyhoo, I've loved his soft sketchy style from the first time I saw it and I've been looking forward to sharing a few of my favorites. His works illustrate an ongoing story about a peculiar place called Hopeless Maine and it's equally peculiar characters which can be throughly enjoyed on their website. They also have a blog. Give them a visit and yourself a treat for the imagination as well as your eyes!
