Not able to post as often as I'd like, lately! I'm not sure I will be able to finish this in time, so I am posting what I was able to finish this weekend. Getting to be a bad habit, I know. But I miss participating!

I owe, I owe, so off to work I go. We have a mortgage and the hubby would like to retire sometime before he has too, so I just started working full time again, after being part-time for a little over a year. Which means I will have to become more creative in how I allocate time for creativity. O_o Not that I was wonderful at it before, but as they say necessity is the mother of invention. For me right now there are more pros than cons in having a day job. Financial security is one of the biggies, another is that I enjoy the work, and the people I work with. Major pluses! And as an unexpected side effect, I think it has also made me a little clairvoyant! I think I see one of the latest kick-ass Macs and a Wacom Cintiq in my furture, possibly even two! The 21ux for the desktop and the 12wx for the airbook. Ah yes... it's becoming clearer mmm hmmm. Anyway, I've been making slow progress on my little fae piece and I will hopefully one fine day actually be able to share it when it's finished. In the meantime here is another in progress shot. Gotta go, it's a work night.

I am so tickled, I got just what I was hoping for, for Christmas! ArtRage the painting program! I suppose technically the screen shot of the in-progress illustration below doesn't exactly make one think of this weeks theme word, but I wanted to post it because I am just so happy with how it is coming along. For me it does illustrate some of my resolutions for this year, in regards to my art. For instance, this year I resolve to create more artwork that makes me happy. To be able to do it digitally, but in the traditional style that I love is just bliss for me right now.

It may not come as a surprise to some to learn that I love creating arwtork digitally. ^.^ I usually use Photoshop and Illustrator (I have CS2) in conjunction with each other to get my desired results. Although these are powerful creative tools, I've felt they leave a little to be desired when it comes to getting a more traditional painterly look. To achieve that the standard software option has been Corel Painter. But I recently was made aware of ArtRage. And I've got to say I am kinda loving it! I am currently using the trial version of Studio Pro, but it has just moved up to the top of my Christmas list. So Santa, if you happen to read this, is it too late to be good this year?

From the poignant Christmas tale by Hans Christian Andersen.
It's not really finished, I still need to work on the shading and details.
I will update it when it is.

I started a few different pieces for this weeks theme, but didn't like any of them. So I decided to post a piece I did quite a while ago, (although it really isn't finished it either). Anyway, something is better than nothing, right?

There is a jazz festival held annually in our area. They used to hold a call to local artists for the illustration of their posters every year. I've used one of my concepts that wasn't selected. I always thought this one had a real elegant style that recalls the old jazz lounge atmosphere. But maybe that's just me? Anyway, hope you like it! :)

My Illustration for this weeks prompt from Illustration Friday. When reading this weeks prompt the first thing that came to mind was one of my favorite poems: I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Dr. Maya Angelou. So I used it's inspiration for this illustration. Hope you enjoy it!

I think its beautiful! Its also restful and serence, I want to be laying under that tree with a good book right now.
Beautiful. And I love that you took the prompt so literally. Very fun.
I also love the wind chime on your blog!
This is beautiful! I would love to sit under this tree~
Very pretty! Love the way you worked in all those circle details. Lovely colors.
I've never seen these people who call digital art "cheating". It's certainly a very different medium, and people are welcome to their preferences! But insulting people is never the answer.
(Ah, I had to come back and clarify! I didn't mean YOU were insulting anyone. I meant those people calling digital artists "cheaters". That kind of insult is rarely helpful.) :)
