Okay, so I have been consumed with writing a picture book and I have neglected my blog. Sorry folks. Days are just running into each other. I am currently illustrating 2 books for authors and my brain is on overload. I found a new love for writing and I am really taking the time to learn all I can. It is amazing how much thought goes into one. And revising and revising! I am reading every book I can and I am just now in the last week of a 5 week Web Course. Phew! all in one breath!

Each day is jam packed with so much information and everyone is so wonderful and supportive. For an illustrator you get to see the other side for a change.
This course was given by Mira Reisberg. She did have other wonderful people who helped out: Sudipta Bardan-Quallen and Mandy Yates.
So to take a break and get back to my own self I did a small sketch. I will always fall back to illustrating.:) And hope that someday I will accomplish having my own book in hand to share with the world. One that I write and illustrate.
And, when this course ends I do hope that I will find others who would like to start a writing critique group. If anyone has a group that is open to a novice :) illustrator/writer and willing to deal with maybe some whining and her pulling her hair out. I would love to hear from you! ha ha

Hi all! I missed the entry deadline because I thought it was a different day. So I will be adding this to my portfolio :) Also life kinda stepped in the way and made me forget. Well chalk it up to lesson learned and moving on. I worked really hard on this and tried out a new pallet. So I decided I am going to share it with everyone and place it everywhere I can and hope you like it and makes you smile.

For the word "Secret". The secret that this fairy exists right under our noses. Helping her sweet bird friends.
First for me on doing a fairy. Thought it tied into this word perfectly. I have to get back to posting and doing IF's again!
Trying to work on simplifying my line and let the feeling of the illustration work for me instead of trying to be so controlled by the way it should look. If that makes sense.

Mother Goose Rides AgainGliding so quietly in the air throughout the night and hidden from the clouds Mother Goose rides again. Children in this town all tucked in tight and settling in for the night. She sprinkles a bit of magic and spreads stories of all kinds to children of the next generation.
Well, have a great weekend. Do not forget to either read to your child each night or have them read as a down time before bed. Reading is so important.
For the older kid in your life age 8 and up ( maybe a bit older than 8 ) I recommend these great fairytale inspired books.
I loved them. They are full of adventure and have a lot of recognizable characters that you grew up with. It is packed with fairies, Mother Goose, Little Red Riding hood, Cinderella, trolls just to name a few.
The author is Chris Colfer and he is from the show glee.
Wonderful imaginative and very vivid characters.
The illustration done above was inspired by these stories. I do not know the author at all but recommend this as a must read. I love both but my favorite has to be the second book " The Enchantress Returns".

This is my IF for this week. Rescue. :)
Hello all! I did not get a chance to post this last week so I am also adding to If for this week. The word was Power. I was not able to finish it so I will have 2!! this week. Yay! I think the hen needed to be rescued anyway from that mean ole giant! :)
This is for IF the word for this week is "Fresh". My favorite meal of the day is breakfast! Nothing is better than Fresh oranges! and here are some siblings showing orange mouth smiles :)

Okay almost did not make it. My internet connection was fighting with me today. Here is what I call
Nanny Bot. Couldn't we all use one around bedtime some nights for the really exhausted moms and dads out there.. :) Okay especially when the kids get to heavy to lift and put into bed. And not want them on the couch all night.
I never did a robot. I always wanted to but felt intimidated for some reason. Not sure. So I went into my memory bank and channeled the Jetsons. Love Love them. And so Retro it made me feel much better about taking on this challenge. It actually made me smile. I asked myself this question "Why don't you just try to make it look as friendly as possible?". I believe I did it.
I will have another comic up soon on Buttons and Stinky. So check back when you can. I actually have 2 still waiting for color. I was just able to get this IF in because I have a small break my new freelance book job.

Flying along the Beach. Are you ready for the summer! This is a new postcard that I will be sending out.
I have been out of commission for a few months due to pain,surgery, etc. Sorry I have missed on blogging and connecting with people and seeing what everyone is up to! Getting on the computer was a big chore and only once in a while I would be able to say "like"but not much else.... But, when I felt I could sit by this computer -little by little I was able to get a new website up (which I was building on for a year already! and with help from my husband ) and work on this postcard before I had this last surgery.
My recovery has been slow going and I am always thinking I can do more than I can. :D Each day is better. I kept busy by sketching a comic that I wanted to do for my kids. Maybe I will post it so you can check it out. It was an idea I had for a book. I just had to keep sketching to pass the time keep from going stir crazy after the surgery.
I just added color to them.

Talent! It takes alot to do what they do with a smile night after night. My husband and two girls went to see Le Cirque in New York at the Radio City Music Hall last summer. I was amazed at how quirky and lovely they all seemed to be. Also held my breath off and on with all the acrobatics they performed so perfectly. We all really enjoyed the show.
I never really felt that going to a circus was a good thing to take my kids to see. Due to possible animal cruelty and all the reports of it going on just sickens me in my stomach. So this was an amazing alternative. Let the people carry the show and do not put animals through any abuse to make a dollar.
Also seeing the movie Water for Elephants recently with Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson (who are beautiful in the movie by the way) really made me want to draw something positive and show interest without animals.
Above is a black and white sketch that at some point in the future plan to color in a bit. Thought I might use it as a promotional piece. Maybe. But I hope it does see a glimpse of all the talent I tried to show they have.
All she needed to do was whisper. "Hey, I am here. Want to play?" And they were off!
Had a long time with this. It seems I did not want to let it go and say I was done. Like a book you so wished you did not read thru so quickly. You are turning the last page and say"oh great!" now what.
So hopefully this will bring someone else a smile when they see it. I could watch this movie over and over. Each time I do catch something that I did not see before.
Well, I am still adding to my portfolio so I could get my website up. So slow going! At some point I will let you guys know when. :)

Okay so it all started with this sketch below. Where is was my inspiration. Well my girls had off for winter break recently. After my husband beat the dreaded flu bug we went on a few mini trips since our vacation time was limited. But we managed to make the most of every day we could before it was time for them to return to school.
We went to The Museum of Discovery and Science. We all fell in love with the otters they had there. They were so playful and sweet.
It was a great place and we all had a great time exploring. Another favorite was the rock/mineral collection.
After that a few our next trip was to Miami Seaquarium. Luckily it was not a hot day and it turned out really nice. Even after experiencing the long line to get in.
Anyway, after all this exposure to fish and those playful otters. Who will eventually show up in a illustration in the future. I saw this word of the week as a sign. To do IF again since I have been a bit absent lately.
Thinking if I should make this into a postcard. Any thoughts?

Well...when life is a bit hectic and you are feeling a bit down. I look forward to times like Halloween to lift my spirits. It is my favorite holiday and love that people could just be down to earth and have fun. I did not get a chance to post this and felt I worked really hard why not just do it. Post it! and hopefully it will make someone smile. I could only hope that when my girls grow up they will look back and remember Halloween as a fun time to remember and share their great memories with others.
Put together my own scene and took the two that are usually not the leaders. I have been and just finished reading Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan. It is a great book. Yes, I read it. I will admit it.
It is really worth it.
This illustration that I have done is of Frank (who is a demigod) changed his form into an eagle to help rescue Jason and Piper from the Giant.
I have put it up on IF because it had water which is the word for this week. It is pretty late and not sure
if anyone will see it but decided to do it anyway.

Getting that chill? Halloween is almost here! and in that mood I have done a witch to celebrate it with me. hee hee hee. I just love Halloween. Oh, but not the completely scary kind. This illustration I think is about as dark as I go. Believe it or not it is my first time doing a witch and am very happy with the results. Happy trick or treating! Have a great time and enjoy the kids candy parents for one night!!! I will not tell! shhhhh :D
Alright I know I have not posted in a while. I have just been trying to sketch more and see what I can come up with. Always trying to improve and see what is out there.
Yes! this has been done about a million times before by many many illustrators. But, I have never done it and thought I would try it out. I found it to be the happiest of stories out there. This is my version and I hope you like it.
I am currently trying to get some more work done to put up on my site. To make it new and fresh looking. I do think it needs it! So this will be a new addition. :D
If any one has any suggestions on something they would like to see me tackle let me know.

IF Freeze.
Hi everyone- Been away on vacation for a while and trying to come back to myself. Working on my website and really trying to get it done so that I can show how much I have grown.
Here in this illustration I used inks and had fun with just taking the shapes and making it into something. Thought of posting it for freeze because the water did freeze and you could still see all the funny looking fish thru it. :)
Looking forward to seeing what others come up with. Looking for new projects! If anyone has any leads please let me know!!! :)
