3. Challenge to be a Unicorn

A Challenge To Be A Unicorn

Dawn Davies

All unicorns have to undertake a challenge before they get their golden horns, and it’s not an easy task to undertake. First, on earth, they have to spend a time being a true living horse. They can be either someone’s pet, a Police horse, a free and wild horse, or a working horse, and of any breed or any colour coat. To become a unicorn they have to earn golden stars for special deeds and be truly loved. For each good deed another star is added but it takes them all their lifetime to earn their golden stars. When one of these very special horses becomes a unicorn, they go through a change. They become young again and their tails and manes become so long and fine, and they leave a trail of stardust wherever they go, but they cannot ever be seen again by anyone. The only time one may be seen is if they gallop in and out of someone’s dream, so remember, unicorns do exist but only in our dreams.

Now here is a story of one such horse. She was a wee little thing when her mother gave birth to her on the farm where they lived. This farm bred racehorses, and the owner of these horses obviously needed fast and fleet-footed horses to win him some races. He was so disappointed with this little filly but loved her look, pure white she was and her muscle tone was just perfect, and in some light she nearly glowed, and her shadows were blues and lavenders, in fact she was perfect in every way except size. He used to call her his perfect pretty, and named her Grace. Over time she grew some, and became swift and strong but still oh so tiny, but just perfect for this farmer’s children to ride. She was gentle and good natured and seemed to know instinctively what to do, which helped the young riders to feel safe and of course without her knowing it, she earned herself her many golden stars, and she was told she was loved so many times.

One day a new stallion was introduced to the farm, a big boisterous stallion. His coat was black as night. He was called Jake. He truly was a beauty, but also could be mean at times, and the stable lads had a hard job to settle him and he was causing all sorts of problems. None of the other mares would let him go near them and in fact people too were becoming afraid.

One day our little filly was out in the field with the farmer’s two young children. She had given them both a ride and now it was her grooming time, a time the children loved, and of course she ended up by the end with even more little gold stars. Jake broke loose and galloped out from his stable and into the yard. He jumped a few fences to get to the fields, and ended up coming into the field where the children and Grace were. The kids knew Jake, and how bad he could be and were very afraid. They tried to hide behind Grace, and Grace being such a smart horse, sensed Jake was going to maybe harm her charges, whom she too loved so much. She stood her ground keeping herself between the

children and Jake and was stamping her tiny feet to keep him at bay. He took no notice of this at first and started stamping the ground too, and each move he made he got nearer and nearer to Grace and the two very frightened children. When Jake got far too near, Grace reared up on her hind legs and whinnied a call to warn him away.

As this was going on and back at the stable yard, everyone was looking for the runaway horse and from a distance the farmer spotted where his children were, and could hear Grace’s angry calls. He could see what was happening. He could see Grace standing up to this big black stallion even though she was in fact half the size of Jake, and as the farmer ran to save his children, in his haste he tripped over and hurt his ankle. As he got up without taking his eyes off the scene in front of him, Grace was still there, holding back this big black horse.

Then the next moment Grace charged at Jake and took him by surprise, and startled him so much he turned around and galloped away, but Grace was so mad at him that she gave chase and galloped away after him, her mane and tail flowing in the wind. No way did the farmer think his little pretty would ever catch this fast big horse, but to his surprise she did catch him and she also kept pace, nipping at his rump many times as if scolding him. Jake was squealing as he ran. After a full circuit around the field, Jake came skidding to a halt and bowed his head, panting and snorting. Then Grace stopped too and with a toss of her beautiful head and a few snorts, turned around and cantered back towards the children with her little head held high. By then the farmer had got to his two frightened children. Boy, Grace sure earned some stars that day. Afterwards Jake was very well behaved and very calm, but only if he could see Grace in the distance.

Many happy years later, Grace’s time here was over. She was still so beautiful in her last sleep, and was missed by everyone who knew her, but left happy memories behind her. She earned so many golden stars throughout her happy life, and now has her golden horn. She now gallops in and out of peoples dreams, as the beautiful unicorn she has become.

So don’t be sad, she’s still around, because as you know, as a unicorn she still exists, but only in our dreams.

End

A challenge to be a unicorn

All unicorn’s have to undertake a challenge before they get their golden horns, and its not an easy task to undertake, first on earth they have to spend a time being a true living horse, whether its someone’s pet or a free and wild horse, roaming the ranges. Or a general good working horse. These horses that are to become unicorn’s have to be very special and loved so much, they earn Golden stars each and every time someone tells them that they are loved or in fact kissed or hugged. And once they become a unicorn they cannot be seen except in our dreams, but they will live forever.

Now here is a story of one such unicorn, she was a wee little thing when her mother gave birth on the farm where they lived, this farm bred racehorses, and the owner of these horses obviously needed fast and fleet footed horses to win him some races, he was so disappointed with this little filly when she was born as she was so small, but he grew to love her very much, he loved her look, she was pure white with perfect muscle, and in some light she nearly glowed, and her shadows were of blues and lavenders, in fact she was perfect in every way except size, and he used to call her his perfect pretty and named her Grace, over time she grew some and became nice and strong but still oh so tiny, but just perfect for this farmers children to ride, she was gentle and good natured and seemed to know instinctively what to do, which helped the young riders to feel safe and of coarse without her knowing it, earned herself many golden stars, as she was told she was loved so much.

One day a new stallion was introduced to the farm, a big black boisterous horse, called Jake, he truly was a beauty, but could be mean at times, and the stable lads had a hard job to settle him and he was causing all sorts of problems, none of the other mares would let him go near and in fact people too were becoming afraid. On day Jake broke loose and jumped a few fences to get to the fields, and he came into the field where the children were with grace, the kids knew Jake was mean at times and were very afraid, and they both tried to hide behind grace, grace sensed their worry and that this horse was going to maybe harm the two young children, who she too loved so much, so she danced around and stood her ground, stamping her tiny feet to keep him at bay. And put herself between this big black horse. He took no notice of this at first and started stamping the ground too, and each move he made he got nearer and nearer to grace and the two very scared children, To stop him coming any further Grace reared up on her hind legs and whinnied a call to warn him away, by this time the farmer could see what was occurring and in his haste tripped over and hurt his ankle, as he got up and without taking his eyes off the scene in front of him, and being worried sick for his children but also worried about grace safety too, and there was his little pretty, protecting his children and holding her ground to this big black horse.

Then the next moment grace charged at Jake and she startled him so much that he turned and fled, he ran and ran and our grace gave him chase, no way did the farmer think his little pretty would catch this fast horse, but to his surprise she did catch him and kept pace and nipped at his rump as if scolding him, after a full circuit around the field, Jake came skidding to a holt and bowed his head, panting and snorting as the grace stopped too and with a toss of her beautiful head and a few snorts turned around and cantered back towards her charges and by then the farmer had got to them, boy did she earn some golden stars that day, Jake thereafter was as calm as could be but only if in the distance this little filly he could see.

When Grace was full grown and she had her first born, it was a beautiful chestnut foal with a white star on his head and a glowing pure white tail, which is very unusual, he was called comet, did know that if you see a comet up in the sky, they have a tail too, its all the dust and particles trailing behind the comet and they call that a Comet’s tail. The farmer was enchanted by him and of coarse Grace earned evened herself more and more golden stars, by 6 months old he was taller than his mother and on reaching one year old he was as tall as could be, but the main thing everyone noticed was how fast and sure footed he was, the farmer trained him to race and at the end of each days training he gave Comet lots of kisses and hugs too, so Comet was earning his very own golden stars too and he always found time to give grace some love and kisses too and earned her more golden stars.

A few years passed, and so did comet’s training and he was about to run his first race, a win was gained, and kisses rained, and earned comet some extra golden stars of his own. Home they came, and with the trophy, The farmer went about settling comet down and grace for their nighttime sleep, oh yes and more kisses they both got too, a bucket load of golden stars were gained for them that evening. The next morning poor Grace was gone, she was so beautiful in her sleep, and the farmer and his children really did weep, but don’t be sad for the loss of Grace, for now she became a Unicorn, with a shiny new golden horn and as she gallop’s around she leaves a trail of stardust behind her, and she is young again too and would now never grow older. Grace now gallops around in all our dreams, because as you know, unicorns do exist but only in our dreams.

Buttercurl Wave

Waves are crashing,
They feel so high,
When you ride them,
You almost fly,
The perfect wave,
For a surfer’s ride,
Out of nowhere,
It can’t hide.

6. An Ode to a Toad

An Ode to a Toad.

An Ode to a toad,
Who really was out of mode,
Never did he follow the code,
Green all the other are,
But he is mauve,
And in the right light,
He really glows.

7. Night Tiger

Night Tiger.

Tiger with your eyes so bright,
He can see well into the night,
What does he do until morning light,
Don’t be there, he'll give you a fright.

Tiger with his story to be told,
What makes his stance so very bold,
They took his land, he tries to hold,
To him his land is worth more than gold.

Tiger with such golden hair,
What would we do if you were not there,
Stories untold of your Tiger's lair,
We want your history to always be there.

Tiger so fast, please don’t blink,
These wonders of god, are on the brink,
We don’t want humanity, to loose this link,
For then us humans, would really stink.

So come on you guys, pick up the fight,
We don’t want the tiger's to face this plight,
So come let's use our might,
To let these tiger's have back the night.

8. Dreamer

Dreamer

A Horse of dreams, can always be seen,
Flaring their nostrils, and chasing the wind.
Jumping over fences, or running through a stream,
Up on their hind legs, punching the air,
But always with such long beautiful hair.

Dolphin Trio

We three dolphins swimming along,
Splashing around having fun,
We glide through the water,
So carefree and young,
Spending the day,
Following the sun.
