3. Palace of Fine Art Rotunda

Before I saw the Palace of Fine Art in Person I saw it in the Movie Vertigo. Apparently Disneyland has a replica at California Adventure.

I did a color sketch of San Francisco City Hall. It'll be part of an illustration of the city.

This was one of my preliminary color samples for the cover of the next Pasadena visitors guide. It’s the color I wanted but they ended up going with one of my other comps.

This is the value study for the Pasadena visitors guide I gave them before I started sending color stuff. #pasadena #illustration #preliminary #blackandwhite #southerncalifornia

The Piggy Boat design for the movie Angry Birds
For a short time I had the privilege to work on the Angry Birds movie. I had a great time working with the Amazingly talented production designer Pete Oswald. I also got to work with the awesomeness of Samantha Kallis, Travis Ruiz, John Nevarez, Sue Blanchard and Jeanie C!
Now go see the movie :)

10. Gamble House Illustration

Used a rather simple warm color scheme. Most of the work in this Illustration was in the value stage. Changed the composition a little as well.

11. Gamble House Sketch

Finally got a chance to do some sketching for myself.
This is a drawing for one of my latest city illustrations.
Had a lot of fun exploring light, shape and a little texture.
Now its time to tackle color.

12. Cloudy 2 art: Tim's Boat

Final 2-D design

Final 2-D interior design

Exterior boat sketch

Early interior sketches

Tim's Boat was the first set I designed on Cloudy 2. Was a lot of fun
but very challenging. I wanted it to come across as believable,
at the same time fun like a big toy.
The directors basically pitched it as an extension to Tim's
tackle shop in the first movie.

Early concept art. Exploring shape.

Thumbnail Sketches.

The Breakfast Bog was a challenging set to design. In order to get to the final, we went through several sketches to figure out how best to make it work and look good for the camera.

14. Cloudy 2 art: Live Corp Cubicles

In an earlier version of the movie, Flint decorated his cubicle with his classic tron-like paint. Everyone else's cubicle would've been the shiny clean surfacing you see at the top. The first cube made it in the movie but it got a lot smaller and with even less stuff inside.

15. Cloudy 2 Art: Cheesespiders take over locations all over the world. Including Lady Liberty.

Eiffel Tower Color and layout edited by Dave Bleich
and Justin Thompson

These are the remainder of the onscreen shots I painted for the Chester's Office Cheesespiders taking
over the world scene for Cloudy 2. Hope you enjoy them!

16. Cloudy 2 art: The Old North Church. Boston Massachusetts

In one version of Cloudy 2, Chester showed Flint what would happen if the Cheesespiders attacked the Old North and South Churches. Poor Paul Revere statue never stood a chance.

17. Cloudy 2 art: Flints Laptop

When I originally pitched the idea for Flint's Laptop to the directors, I had Inspector Gadget in mind, so I went a little crazy. It was toned down a bit, as you can see in the final design, but still lots of fun. If you look close you may see some familiar technology decorated in Flint's tron-line decor.

      After Cheesespiders attack.

One of the things I liked so much about working on Cloudy 2 was the freedom of caricaturing real life subjects and taking it as far as I possibly could.
These did not make it into the movie, but it did set the tone for other similar illustrations that did.

19. Work for the Cloudy 2 Children's books

In no special order, these are some of the illustrations I did for Simon and Schusters books. Flint Lockwood the greatest inventor of all time and Flint Lockwood Saves the world again. Quality and speed was key, as I was working on Cloudy 2 at the same time. I will post work for that project just after its Sept 27th release date. Thanks so much for visiting.

Here are a couple of sketches for the illustrations of the book. I added these to the blog just in case anyone is curious about my process.

20. Mickey Mouse Backgrounds and link to the short.

I did the layout and painting for this one. The style that the art director came up with demanded that it look like the short be done in pen and ink. It was a blast and I learned a lot in the process.

These are some of the backgrounds I did for the recent Disney Mickey Mouse shorts that just released. I had the privilege to work with the incredible illustrator and art director Joseph Holt, . If you haven't seen the short yet take a look. It's absolutely hilarious beautiful and adorable! Link located below.

23. Pasadena City Hall Painting

Here is my painting of Pasadena City Hall.

Been doing a lot of work for Cloudy 2 (which I love BTW), but it is refreshing to take a personal work to completion. Lately its been tough to call a work done, due to the fact that by the end of each working day I learn so much from being around such amazing artists, I find myself endlessly tweaking my work.

It's been wonderful working with Justin Thompson, Production Designer for both Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and Cloudy 2 . He is in no small part responsible for broadening my perspective on how I look at composing pictures for film and illustration as a whole.

This print will be available at my Etsy store soon.

24. Sketches of Pasadena City Hall

So I really like this building and I wanted to sketch it in detail. Then I found a rare copy of Sasek's: This is New York, and got inspired to do a composition. Painting coming soon.

Some drawings I did at California Institute of Technology with the goal of capturing interesting light. The Thumbs on the bottom are not from Cal Tech. I did these thumbs for fun.
