One of my must have products for Valentines Day is chocolate. Dark, Milk, White, I love it all.
If you look at the ingredients list on the back of most chocolate wrappers, you usually see a note that says it was processed at a plant where they have nuts. I don't have any food allergies, so I've never been concerned about that fact. But recently Kik had an allergic reaction to pistachios. She got welts on her face, and she turned red and blotchy, and her throat felt weird. It wasn't pretty.
Ever since that happened, Ive been concerned that she'll have a similar reaction to another type of nut. The problem being, she loves chocolate almost as much as I do.

It's been a cold cold winter here in Utah. With a January average of just 18.8 degrees (10.6 below normal) and 37 straight days of snow on the ground, I have spent the last few months with layers of warm clothing on. So when I got offered the chance to review the Sunbeam LoftTec Plush Heated Throw, I jumped at the chance.
In all honesty, I've never been a fan of the heated throw. I've always felt like the insides were crinkly and full of wires and that the fabric was stiff and uncomfy.
My experience with the Sunbeam LoftTec Plush was completely different. There is still a heating element inside, but the fabric was super soft and the inside wasn't bunchy at all. It was completely awesome.
One of my favorite features of the blanket is the three heat control setting. We usually keep it on medium, but I was very excited to be able to turn it up on those 5 degree days. For the last few weeks everyone in my family has sat huddled on the couch in this position.
Since we've loved this blanket so much, I've been looking around at local stores to see if I can find anything that can compare. So far I've only seen fleece heated blankets, which are not anywhere near as soft as this one.

When I was younger, my parents used to give my sisters and me a special treat on Valentines Day. Sometimes it was a box of chocolates, sometimes it was a special treat, but it was always given to us in the morning. This year, surprise your kids with Barbara's Cookie Pies.

One of my families holiday traditions is making fun food to celebrate the Holidays. We make jello worms for Halloween, green eggs and ham for St. Patricks, Day, and robins egg nest cookies for Easter. Sadly, our valentines day dinners have just consisted of different red foods.

About - I started turning custom pens after my wife gave
me a wood lathe for Christmas a couple of years ago. It seems at sometime in our 40 years of marriage, I mentioned the fact that I really enjoyed using a wood lathe in shop class in highschool. Back then all we made were candlestick holders...my, how times have changed! Now I devote most of my spare time turning pens. Funny thing is though, I still can't seem to find a pen when I need one!
My handturned, handfinished pens are made from wood, acrylic, or Corian (a Dupont registered countertop materias) or a combination of materials. I really enjoy the element of surprise when you stop the lathe for the first time after turning the pen blank down to it's finished size and looking at the pattern or grain in the wood that's been revealed. It often looks nothing like it looked like prior to putting it on the lathe.
The one thing I do that make my pens unique is that I use non-standard centerbands. I look for unusual beads, rings, metal bands, or wood pieces to use as the centerband on my pens. It really sets them apart from most other pens available online. I also do custom pens in any one of over 100 types of wood and with any type centerband you'd like. All my pen prices include free shipping and one free ink cartridge refill for the pen.

About - I am the creator of Eva M Designs, a shop that features a little bit of everything. I've always loved crafting but didn't get into the business end of it until I started making jewelry. Needing a way to fund this addiction, I started a shop on Etsy. Eva M Designs is named after my grandmother, Eva Manko, who passed on her crafty-gene to me. I think she also passed on an entrepreneurial spirit -- I remember hearing stories of her and my grandfather running all sorts of ventures, from an ice cream shop to selling eggs to clothing alterations. I recently decided to leave a career in teaching (and a decent salary) to manage a non-profit animal shelter in Olean, NY, and frankly, could use a second job. I'm trying to make Eva M Designs that job!
Though I've always been crafty, I never considered the possibility of a hobby becoming a business. For a long time, I made things for my own use -- I scrapbooked in high school, and I did a lot of sewing. For a few years I participated in Civil War reenactments (haha, yes, I'm a geek), so I sewed all my 1860s-era dresses myself. I also made a number of quilts and my prom dress. After I began college, my time was swallowed up with school and work, so it was just within the last few years I've gotten back into crafting. I started making jewelry in 2010 -- first, for myself, and then as Christmas presents. I briefly ventured into Etsy at that point, but my time was again taken up with graduate school (M.Ed. in Middle and Secondary Ed) and I abandoned that first try. I got back on to Etsy late this fall, utilizing the little time I have after work (when I'm not planning, grading, calling parents, etc.) to create! Finding teaching not to my liking, crafting has been a way to cope with this stressful year. I'm looking forward to my move to Olean, finally getting into a career that I love, and I hope all that positive energy will flow back into my creative work as well.

After Christmas is always a crazy busy party time for us, My sisters birthday is on the 27th, my husbands brother is on the 29th, a brother in law on New Years Eve, my sister on New Years, and finally another brother in law on the 2nd of January. Since we will be celebrating so many birthdays, I figured why not celebrate one on my blog as well.
Here's a few clues to whose birthday we are celebrating.
- He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on December 30, 1943.
- He’s written and illustrated over 300 children’s books.

About - Mercer Mayer has published over 300 books using a wide range of illustrative styles, although he is probably best known for his Little Critter® and Little Monster series of books. When Mayer drew from his own childhood experiences in creating stories, he struck a chord with children and parents alike.

When I was younger I wasn't really into girly things. I didn't have much jewelry and I never wore makeup. But I always secretly wanted a charm bracelet. We're not exactly what you would calll athletic. We love to read. My husband is a math teacher. And my 6 year old makes up math and spelling problems for fun.
