Well, website is up and running at http://www.katewhitmoreart.com/
So, I got married, and that is a something! I have been meaning to do more animals, so here is a collection of sketches, and another illustration that I finished up recently!
So, I drew some friends for the ballet dancer! Personally, I like the flapper--she knows where all the happening digs are... or something. :D....
I watched a documentary on ice yesterday, so you know I'm telling the truth.
See above!

Ok, so, it's been awhile. I've been working on a kid's book--which was fun, but needed to be done quickly. Since it is a kid's book, we all learn a valuable lesson :)
My valuable lesson is that I need to draw more for myself. I just haven't been, which is very bad--someone get me an established career that will allow me to relax slightly, quick! I know some of you have them! I'm tense!
The things I am most excited about at the moment:
1. Finding more/getting more freelance.
2. Moving.
Ok, it's like down the street, but still! EXCITING TIMES!

This is my evil doctor in a dorky Star Wars game that myself and several friends play--I will proudly mention that I just learned Force Lightning, however, and I say that knowing that you will be jealous!

Despite not having a job yet, I am in a good mood :D
I finally have some free time, and we'll see where that takes me! Also, how long that very free time is enjoyable :P
Ok, the thesis/thesis spamming is pretty much done, minus some almost certain last minute editing in the near future. I'll stop only posting these hopefully--but having switched my thesis... a month and a half ago, these were pretty much all I did. To make sure they got done at all :P I feel really hectic still, but also ready to sleep. I am, at the basest of levels, done with school. What now?
Well, getting these ready for show, figuring out the order and arrangement of them (other than by file name) and stuff, finding a job, you know, those minor things!
Edit: India? I am unsure :\
And one more to go! I'll probably just stick India in this post later when it is done, but for now, here is Russia! Snow is tricky--I haven't seen any in so long, and it was hard to think about the fun of winter in the heat of a Florida summer. India is going to have some really rich reds, and I'm excited for a change of pace :) Goal for finish is still the 17th!
/battle cry
Most people have preferred the colored lamps in Japan, so I think I will go with those--thank you for everyone who shared their opinion, both on and off this blog!
Well, I decided on some tropics and some rolling green fields! I'm working on Russia now, and I think India is next--though these are mostly supposed to be 'inspired' by places, and not super accurate, sometimes it's pretty obvious where they are supposed to be! If I have to have titles for them, though, at senior show (I can't remember if we have to label things!) the titles will be more along the lines of 'The Canal' and 'The Kitchen' and stuffs. As always, I'll probably go back and fine tooth comb all of these later before print--especially the tropics--the boat. I don't know anything about boats or what is on them :) PS: There are the tiniest of bees in Ireland.
I only have Russia and India to do now and I'll be done with all nine--my goal is the 17th, when I have my turn to present in class. No deductions if we aren't done, but I think it's a good goal time still.
Also! Just super quickly--do you, internet, prefer the color lanterns? Or the white ones? The white ones are in the last post, and I would love some feedback! I can't decide!
Well, I hope to keep doing them this quickly, anyway, but these are the two newest I've done! Personal favorite is Japan, but I still have to put in the Godzilla. Someday, someday, promises, promises. I'm going to get nine done, I hope, and then have time to go back in fiddle/have a good amount of time to print them well--I wish these could be posted at a better quality, because they are huge and high res for printing. Four more to go, and lots and lots of ideas--if you have a specific fun place in mind, feel free to suggest it, too! Next on the list is Russia, and then possibly Ireland! We shall see :) At the end is an every so slightly closer look at the family in Japan!
Ugh, so I changed my thesis right at spring break, so things have been EXCITING. I feel much better about what I'm doing now, and I'm trying to be optimistic for the future. There are a lot more families to come, in lots of new places--these aren't in any particular order, either, by the way!
I didn't get nearly as much done as I should have, as there was company down, sickness, people leaving, coming back, blah blah blah. Any which way, these are a mish mash from the Carter's Workshop that was at the end of last semester that should have been posted a month ago, and a sad little monster. Carter's was fun, but maybe even a bit TOO sweet/kiddy for me.
Nah, can't be!
Well! It was an exciting day--I was very pleased and thankful to get an interview with American Greetings! I don't know if it is bad form to brag, but my grin was probably creeping out all the other drivers on my commute home, I'd imagine!
Here are a couple of pretty 'blah' things.
This is a thank you card I'm sending out to family for thinking of my on my birthday! There is a text version, but I'd prefer a mermaid, so just imagine her there, ok? Or, if you prefer, a giant squid. Or both!
These are some very odd doodled monsters for my concept class--I imagine them to be very loud!
Well, it is a busy time, certainly, with thesis upon us, and trying to put together a portfolio and realising that you might spend Forever in a box in the street. I hope I don't, and I hope you don't either, internet! The first one is for my ocean friends and also my land-faring friend Lisa who was at the doctors. The second one is my self portrait for our poster at school--I figured that if I were not an artist(I hope) I would build evil robots! The last one is the red monster from the previous assignment that magically found it's way back to me!
Pretty much the title sums it up! My hard drive decided it did not want to be read by any computer anymore, so I ended up working really hard this weekend to try and finish things that were much more done previous to said disaster. I usually have things saved in many locations in case of this, but I still lost a lot of progress I had done at school and not saved at home yet. Such is the risk of digital, but no more of a risk than tipping a bottle of ink onto something and starting over, or tripping and ripping a canvas, so I shouldn't be too upset!
Any which way about it, I never want to try and complete what was supposed to be a three week assignment in one weekend again. Also, having not had such a frantic weekend in a long time I'd almost forgotten what that surge of 'I might not get this all done in time'-panic was like! The answer: not pleasant, but thrilling none the less! The illustration below is for Hansel and Gretel, and makes me excited for Halloween! It was done in bursts between studying and finishing other projects for midterm, so I'm not as happy with it as I was hoping. Ah, well! Also, I need to see how this prints--super saturated colors are always tricky, and I can't tell if my monitor is actually calibrated correctly or just playing a nasty trick on me, so this might look odd, too :
The blue monster was finished a while ago now, but I am a posting slacker, it seems! Anything else I wanted to post was on the hard drive or at school, so this might be edited later!
Well, obviously school has begun anew, and I am actually having a really good time this year! Fingers crossed for that to continue--I'm going to try not to let this blog languish, if only to get in the habit of keeping up to date! I've been having fun doing mostly children's stuff in Illustration so far, and it looks like I'll be doing a lot of this for our proposed assignments. Which is most wonderful, as I can ideally bulk up my portfolio with it--seeing as how that is one of my first career choices it seems the thing to do. Maybe.
I've got three general classes, a math, History of Photography, and American Creativity II--wish me luck in not falling asleep! I'm serious. They are all in the morning. This is troubling.
First up is Henry Sugar--I did him this summer for fun, so there isn't much to say! Our first assignment in Concept II is to do work for a storyboard we did in the previous class. I will not lie--I hated storyboarding about as much as I hated painting. A lot. The only storyboard I had any fun with was when we had to write a poem, actually--I expected to hate it, but I did it in the style of a cautionary tale, so it became much more fun(it is important to make everything fun)! So I picked that project, obviously--The Horrible Twin. We all learn a valuable lesson about not murdering people.
This was the first assignment for Fiore's class. The guidelines were loose, which was great, so I had fun! We were doing critiques of our previous works for all the classes leading up to THIS critique, so the teacher had a lot to say! Thankfully I am getting over my fears of lunging at a teacher outside of class, so I asked him things to fix early and got off pretty easy :)
The next two are a couple of very loose color studies for the next assignment for Illustration. I want to try something similar to the above style again, as it is fast and fun--fast because this is a two week project and I really want a series of three! I need to decide on the next monster!
So, for the two people that might stop by here on the off and off, you probably already know all about Drew's job, and if you don't you probably don't care! Let me just say that someone who shall remain nameless (Drew) is now a member of the working public, and whats more is that he is a member of the working public in an art capacity. Hooray!
All three of these below images (or pieces of images) were started and left for dead at some point this summer--I'm just posting a couple because I think the trend is obvious. (The trend is 'Things Kate Has Not Finished, Will Never Finish, And Don't Deserve To Be Finished'.) I was attempting different things to VERY different degrees of success, so don't expect any masterpieces and we will get along fine. I was trying to get a polished look to her--close to a science boy I had done before--I LOVED doing her face and hair, but I just lost all interest when it came to her clothes. It was (when working on her hair and face) really really good fun though, so here is a closer view of that. I am pretty content with how the hair came out--it might not be the best in the world, but it was pretty close to what I was going for.
I mostly wanted to try drawing fun clouds--and they WERE fun, thank you for asking.
I started to lose interest in this the further down I went, too--the hair was fun, the face was, the neck and chest made me angry, and everything else made me straight up just want to do terrible things to my computer. This is a piece of a much bigger image, but most of it kind of dissolved into frustrated squiggles. Whoops. It really had too many problems from the get go that I ignored or didn't worry about becuase it was just for fun--in a fit of irony, the stuff I ignored made it much. much. much less fun.
Indeed it is a busy time! School is winding down, and I can't say that is displeasing to me, as much as I love school. The thing I am not too thrilled about is that I head straight to MCC for some summer classes so I don't have to take them next semester, so if you are at MMC this summer, odds are I still won't see you, faceless internet! But thanks for the thought!
These are some images from Illustration this past semseter--I chose to illustrate Matilda, James and the Giant Peach, and the Witches!
What do you mean you got married!? I'm heading over to facebook to scout out more info on this! I love these pieces by the way, my favorite is the mouse ^_^
Congrats! I love these. I'm so glad you're posting again.
