Koolibri (EE)
Why Koolibri (Estonian for hummingbird)? Why does one of largest publishing houses have the name of the world's smallest bird? The founders of the company were captivated by the bird's huge mobility – its powerful heart allows it to fly up and down, back and forwards, and even hang in the air. A characteristic worth having in the changeable conditions of a market economy! But the main reason is the obvious link with school – Koolibri = kool (Estonian for school) + libri (Latin for books). At present Koolibri brings out an average of 200 books a year with the number of copies reaching around 1.2 million. This means that a book, workbook or schoolbook appears almost every workday. Besides textbooks, the numerous popular science books we have published in translation in cooperation with well-known European publishing houses are in one way or another aimed at enriching and widening children's knowledge and skills. Koolibri has published fundamental dictionaries and top-notch works that have earned a place in Estonian cultural history.
