Publisher Information
Hazard Press Ltd
Hazard Press is an independent, family-run New Zealand publishing house established in 1986 by Quentin Wilson. Initially, Hazard specialised in poetry, literary fiction, fine art, photography and academic books under the Hazard Press imprint. Since 1998 Hazard has concentrated on building a more general list, specialising as well now in mass market paperback fiction, general non-fiction, company history and humour for the local as well as the international market. It has always been our goal to produce books of the highest standard and quality. Books produced or designed by Quentin Wilson or Hazard's wholly-owned production company, Orca Publishing Services Ltd, have won or been shortlisted in more than thirty major book publishing, design and printing awards in both New Zealand and Australia. In 2000, Hazard began administering the Richard Webster Popular Fiction Award and since that time has begun a major effort to assist writers of genre fiction to get published in a country which, until now, has largely focused its fiction publishing in the literary fiction area. In 2002 Hazard set up its Gauntlet imprint in order to publish popular genre fiction. One or two outstanding examples in this area may be published each year.
