tellmemore said: I think that ants are more than a tightly associated group of individuals. Some scientists call them a 'superorganism' and I think they have a pretty neat idea embeded in the concept. Anyway, I don't go into such complexity in this book, just to bring you the amazing world of ant colonies, one at a time, and more... Ants have 'business cards' that tell each other of their jobs in the colony. Ants seem to teach each other, something that until now only meerkats and a species of African bird seem to be capable of doing. Ants help each other as they work, they even use their own bodies to cover holes on the road to make a smoother trip for those carrying food to the nest! Finally, and this involves ants and other insects, take a look at the insides of a living insect in motion! As with the other books in this series, the illustrations are a combination of stock photos and research photos. Research photos are nt easy to come by and keep in mind that although some might not look of the highest resolution, they are real photos taken by researchers to capture the momment in a digital file. They are unique in that sense, because there is usually not a second chance to take the shot!
