A young boy takes a magical train ride to the North Pole, and has an amazing experience that he remembers for the rest of his life. There is not a lot of text, but what is there is rich with adjectives that paint a vivid image in the reader’s mind. It truly takes the reader to a place they want to believe in. The illustrations were created with pastels. The text is on either side with the illustration taking up most of two pages. The use of light is amazing because the shadows and depth are so accurate it was like he was sketching still life. The air looks cold, the clothes look warm, and the bell is shiny and smooth. There are different types of children on the train to emphasize the fact that Santa delivers all over the world. The smoke from the chimneys is sailing off in the direction of the wind. The lines are versatile in the architecture with arches, circular clock towers, bridges, and dormer windows. The North Pole kind of looks like London or New York with all the buildings and arches
