They find themselves outwitting and outsmarting every challenge they face, but coming back home was little trickier. There are medieval characters like Merlin, Arthur, and Lancelot. The cleverness of the language in this book is hilarious. The boys are a bit nervous and scared, but witty and sarcastic. The cover sets the stage for three modern time boys facing an armored knight. The pictures are on almost every page and in black charcoal style. The images are not to scale, but it enhances the tone of the book. The horse’s head and legs are small, but its chest is large and muscular. The jagged, pointed joust looks painfully sharp. The lines around some parts of illustrations make the reader feel like it is moving or a realization has been made. The shading creates a lot of texture and depth on the small scale sketches.
