She always comes face to face with uncertain doom, but manages to make it back to the henhouse that night. The plots are episodic, entertaining, and original. Although there are three different stories they all send the same message that there is no place like home. It is a great story to destroy the saying, “don’t be a chicken.” The gorgeous artwork is pen drawings, watercolor, and acrylic paint. Some parts of the illustrations look like fine art, and then Louise, the chicken, sticks out at you cartoon like. There are mixtures of bubbles, panels, full page, and two page spreads. An interesting part is when the reader has to turn the pages because the pictures are centerfold style. This enhances the sense of height when Louise is walking on a high wire. Some of the pictures even have a silhouette effect that gives the feel of late afternoon, early evening.
