This is a touching and compelling MG novel whose underlying theme explores death of a loved one and how memories can be like still having them around. I was drawn in by the character: got teary eyed when he spoke of missing his mom and dad, and my heart lifted with joy when he found the magic paintbrush and discovered that his Grandfather wasn't quite so bad after all.
