When Jacey Cameron, a seventh grader at Port Ransom Junior High in Washington State, receives a magical legacy from her dying grandmother, she doesn't know what to think. "In this box is a necklace," Grandma Jane tells her, "that will take you back in time, where you will make a difference, and you will bring something back." Jacey isn't sure she believes her old grandmother, but she takes the beat up old wooden box home with her after promising Grandma Jane that she will check it each night. "If the box is warm," Grandma says, "it will open for you. Wear the necklace to bed, and you will awaken in the place you are sent, where the necklace is invisible. It will send you home when the time is right, and not a minute will pass in your bedroom." A few nights later the box is warm and opens to her touch. The intricate gold choker with the blue-gray center stone fits her neck perfectly, and Jacey begins to believe her Grandma's tale. She awakens in 1787 and her adventure begins...
