MoreUnhappy about his position in the alphabet, the feisty Z goes to Dr. Alissa Letterberger for advice. What follows is a funny and thought provoking journey that Z must take to solve his lifelong dilemma of always being last. How Dr. L & Z work through Z's self esteem issues may be illuminating for children of ALL ages. It's been "field tested" with more than 400 first through fourth graders and 150 adults who read with children in schools on a weekly basis. (Subject matter and moral are relevant to children of all ages and very suitable to class discussions. Reading level is 3rd or 4th grade.)
Like its main character, this book is about to transform. After reading the story to audiences ranging from six to sixty years old, the author kept hearing "wow, I can really visualize each scene." A wise woman suggested to the author, "Let them? Have a contest!" Brilliant! We'll publish two versions.
This unillustrated version will be followed by a second edition enriched by the imaginations and artistic renderings of young readers. Being a man of multiple media, the author has also produced an interactive version, that includes the author's expressive narration of the story, challenges for the reader, and a chance to give advice to Z and hear his reactions. The digital application also includes a pdf of the story that you can print out to use as a lesson with your classes. For a digital download visit www.doandyouwilllearn.com/z.html. It's also available in the Amazon App Store!
The author invites and challenges you to draw one or more scenes. Selected illustrations will be pictured and credited in the second edition. Artists will receive $25 per illustration. Details for submission can be found in the book. Check the webpage www.doandyouwilllearn.com/z.html for contest information, updates, and, eventual winning illustrations.
A percentage of the proceeds from sales will go to BookMates. BookMates is an interfaith literacy program that provides services to title I elementary schools in low and moderate income communities through out Southern New Jersey. If your school is interested in participating in the contest contact
[email protected]. Contest entries must be submitted before November 30, 2012.
