They found her to be a grand companion, a sympathetic listener, even an inspiration.

Things were different then. There were no computers, cell phones, MTV, remote controls, video games, or the Internet, but children were free to roam neighborhoods without fear while fathers worked long hours to provide for their families and mothers stayed home to "be there" for their children.

Changes in the culture were occurring, but this family, while accepting the need for some change, held a steady course bound by traditional values.

Don't be surprised as you read this book that, despite the lack of material possessions you might have, you long for a time like that and wish for a dog to call your own just like Wiggles.
