MoreWidely regarded as one of the most important works ever written in Spanish and undoubtedly ahead of its time, "The ingenious gentleman don Quixote of la Mancha" chronicles the adventures of Alonso Quijano who, obsessed with the then popular stories of knights errant, convinces himself that he can live up to said knights and ventures into 17th century Spain, looking for injustices to amend.
The novel is composed of two volumes. The first one contains don Quixote's first two escapes: an initial, short one, which serves as a prelude and the second, in which don Quixote travels in the company of his squire, Sancho Panza. The first volume is, mainly, a parody of the literature the main character devours, mixed with traces of social criticism.
The second volume, published ten years later, tells of the gentleman's third and last journey and is much more ambitious. While keeping his original intentions, Cervantes focuses on don Quixote's slow disappointment with a world which he is unable to make any sense of and which keeps mocking and taking advantadge of him until his very death.
This Spanish digital edition has been composed taking as a reference the 1911-1913 edition by Madrid, Ediciones de La Lectura, adapting it for e-books.
----------
