Allowing students to explore various genres, concepts, events and forms of information in nonfiction books will provide you, the teacher, with the flexibility to make the curriculum more comprehensible and enjoyable for all. As educators, it is our responsbility to provide students with the skills necessary to function in this information Age and beyond. We can select appropriate nonfiction books, demonstrate book format and usage, and give students a multitude of opportunties to apply the skills and strategies they are learning. By doing this, we provide a framework for students to use as they become self-directed learners and informated participants.
