A true story of a twelve-year-old girl, Laris Moshar, who survived the Stalinist onslaught of World War II, in an epic ordeal of escape and drama. In the hands of a thoughtful and attentive artist the story becomes a web of intrigue, a tale of horror with a ray of hope. Her dreams of becoming a concert pianist were smashed by Stalin and her life had become sheer misery, until ironically, the invasion of Germany liberated her and her family from certain exile and death.
Miracle Escape, is Moshar’s first book, a remarkable tour de force about her ordeal and survival at the hands of the brutish regime. It is a thrilling page-turner. Larisa is an artful story-teller. Aimed at the young-adult audience it is nevertheless a historic drama that narrates a true account of the real facts of the day and captures, just like the diaries of Anne Frank, a young girl’s intense fear and hope during the repressive years of a world at war. It is a compelling story of intrigue with danger, and portrays the hopelessness and confusion of a people in the catastrophic grip of a megalomaniac.
Having made her way to America she was resourceful enough to find a new life. She eventually became an accomplished concert pianist who taught piano to thousands of American children until her later years. Now retired, surrounded by her children and grandchildren, she has embarked on a third career with the spirit and drive that recalls the energy with which she arrived in America all those years ago. Her next book finishes the account of the complex characters and life tales that we meet in Miracle Escape.
