Linguistics research shows there is a hierarchy of certain letter combinations most useful in beginning reading. The words Reading Game students first encounter use the most profitable letter combinations. They learn to recognize and use one sound for each new letter. Beginning students' confidence grows as they attain a firm grasp of sound-symbol relationships. Every time they encounter a familiar sequence of letters they build confidence in pronouncing the sounds in words. As students progress through the material, the new sounds keep building until each student has a large reading vocabulary. Moreover, this approach gives new readers the confidence and ability to transfer these reading skills to new words not taught within the Reading Game. The audio-visual CD presents many words and sentences orally so that students hear and see both. The student controls the speed and progress through the game.
