Poco and his fellow Troupadours travel through remote corners of the magical Land of Oz, presenting plays to entertain the inhabitants. But after a triumphant performance in Whitheraway Castle, Poco suddenly finds himself alone and thrust into a new line of work-as major-domo to Slyddwyn the Whitherd.

Soon, unanswered questions trouble Poco. Who is the mysterious black-bearded stranger repeatedly donning disguises to gain entrance to the castle? What scheme is Slyddwyn the Whitherd planning? And where did Poco's fellow players really go?
