This text examines these traditions in detail and assesses their relevance for an understanding of Brittany today. Brittany is now successfully integrated into the modern French state and has survived the amputation of one of its five Departments. In the competitive climate of the European Union, it has fought to preserve its traditional sources of income, such as fishing, farming and tourism. At the same time it has ventured into others, including food processing and high-tech electronic engineering.
