This book looks at swimming through the ages and explains how it became a popular international sport. It examines the biomechanics of swimming and offers a series of exercises for the beginner. Each stroke is analyzed and the book explains how to prepare for competitive swimming and describes the layout of a modern pool for international competition. The reader is also introduced to diving skills and other swimming-related sports such as synchronized swimming and water polo and the book concludes with a description of some of swimming's international stars over the years. Charlie Wilson is trained as a ASA senior coach as well as being a founder member and first president of the British Swimming Coaches Association and is a former British and Olympic coach (1970-79).
