This macabre tragic play was first preformed at the Globe theatre is 1614. The love story is based on true events from the 1500's. The Duchess marries a commoner and her two brothers exact their revenge with tragic results for themselves. The play becomes quite violent in the latter scenes. The complexity of the characters and the use of poetic language make this play a worthwhile read.
