For example, toward the end of the last Ice Age, melting glaciers filled the Great Lakes basin and covered the land connection between North America to create the Bering Straight.
Some glaciers slide down to meet the sea. When they do, they break off. The resulting chunks of ice are called icebergs. Greenland, home to the largest glacier on Earth, forms more than 40,000 icebergs each year. It was an iceberg from a glacier in Greenland that sank the Titanic. That iceberg may have been the size of a football field.
