MoreNon-Violent Stories presents invaluable lessons in the context of the adventures of forest animals and elementary school-aged children. In "Pinky Rabbit Learns a Lesson," Pinky learns that parents' warnings are not to prevent children from having fun, but are for their safety so that they may have more fun on other occasions. When Pinky Rabbit gets glasses, which many children must do during the elementary school years, she learns that it is a positive step toward correcting her vision, not a negative effect on her appearance or who she really is. In another story, the mean-looking and shunned black octopus comes to the rescue fo a young dolphin in "Daffy Dolphin Gets in Trouble." Daffy and her mother quickly learn a lesson about prejudice. Issues of non-violence, non-prejudice, moral lessons that children aren't gettting elsewhere are approached in these heartwarming tales. More than life lessons, these stories and poems are also entertaining as children learn of the plight of others less fortunate than they are. There are also references to the many capabilities of the disabled. The characters serve as excellent role models for all readers. Families will never tire of this collection.
The author's second book, "Reach for the Stars and Read" follows the characters in further adventures. There are numerous poems highlighting each of the author's grandchildren. Cassette and DC's are available to accompany the lyrics in this book. Many of the clever illustrations await a creative crayon or colored pencil to add to childrens' entertainment as they read the stories.
