In the early part of the twentieth century, not far from a deserted hamlet ruined by drought and ravaged by relentless wind, a shepherd lives along, caring for his sheep. Elzeard Bouffier is a man of few words but great determination. One by one, with greatest care, he sows seeds and acorns, singled-handedly planting and nurturing a forest of thousands of oak trees. Through two world wars, he continues his work in peace, without interruption and in complete anonymity. Gradually, a landscape that seemed condemned grows greens again. Young families return to the now beautiful land; yet non realize that the "miracle" is the result on one man's work.
