MoreZoe was on her way home when she noticed the sound of footsteps coming from behind her, but when she would stop, the steps would stop, and no one would be there. When she would start walking again so, would the footsteps. She tried walking faster, then slower, but the steps would do the same. By now, she was getting worried and upset. As she looked ahead, she noticed the alley she and her Mother used to cut through on the way home from the market when she was small. The alley was dark, but she thought it would only take her a minute to get to the other side, and then she would be almost home. As she entered, she began running, but as she got to the other side she stopped. They had built a wall, and there was no way out. The footsteps now were getting closer. Her mind was racing; she threw down her backpack and prepared to fight, but as her pack hit the ground a book fell out, Dream with Me. Without thinking, she bent over, picked it up, and began reading. Suddenly, she was transported to another place where she felt safe. But something was still bothering her-the footsteps. They stopped, and she slowly laid down her book to see...her mother. "Lights out, it's time for bed," she said. Sometimes, all you need is a good book!
