MoreOften I browse the business section of bookstores to increase my knowledge about new aspects of business operations. I often find some good theories regarding specifically defined areas such as Conflict Management or Learning Organization which seems to be the buzz words of today's management theory. But, I found it odd that there were few attempts to define most of the same considerations that entrepreneurs must know to be successful in a "startup business" or in continuing operations. I surmised that, what was needed was a simple guide to understanding management and why we do what we do as managers. Therefore, I considered the key areas that I felt were most important for me when I began my business operations or acted as a consultant. From these experiences and education I then identified what shortcomings I encountered and in the mix as well. First, I had to validate what I was stating. I provided short qualitative chapters on given subjects in a common sense terminology reference by the original or extended study theorists. Secondly, I wanted to provide explicit examples followed by actual papers on the types of studies one could expect from consulting reports. As many of us know, If we don't "speak the language" we can see the outcome but have little control over those results. To specifically understand, reports, one must have a basic grasp of all the considerations that are both implicit and explicit. Some implicit assumptions are that the report reader understands vision, strategy, change, economics, behavior, values, trust, loyalty, culture and the interaction of these terms between management and the employee, group and their relationship to the market itself. Of course the explicit assumptions are: ample funding, technical capability, legality, work force availability and demonstrated total management commitment.
