MoreThis book was written by Dr. Sherri Alpert, a General Dentist with a practice with a large population of children ages 3-7. She noticed a need for a book which could help to prepare preschool and early school aged children for a dental visit which includes dental restorative work (fillings). A large part of a child''s apprehension comes from a fear of the unknown. A good book could help to alleviate these fears by showing these children what they can expect before their actual dental visit. There a number of good books currently available about a child''s first dental visit for an exam and cleaning, but before this one, none adequately dealt with the child''s emotional needs. As a parent herself, Dr. Alpert knows just what to say with words and accompanying photos, to put a child and her parent at ease about her first dental visit. This book depicts a typical American girl from the first moment that she notices a problem with her teeth, through her fears and discomfort, to the resolution of her problem. It depicts the support of caring adults including the girl''s mother and Dental Professionals. It does this ina storybook format so that the child''s imagination is engaged while reading or hearing the book. The book invites the child into Cassandra''s world with its use of colorful photographs and melodic verse. In fact the photographs tell the story so well, it could be used for even youger children. This is a facinating picturebook which can be used to make the lives of children, their parents and Dental Professionals easier.
