Eva finally gave in and answered the doorbell after having tried unsuccessfully to ignore the almost constant chime. She peered through the window and saw Sandy standing slumped against the doorjamb, her eyes red and swollen from crying. Sandy's face was in a state of obvious abuse. Eva hastily admitted Sandy and took note of her distraught state as she stumbled haltingly past Eva and took a seat in the nearest chair. "What's happened to you!?" Eva cried, shocked by her sister-in-law's appearance. Sandy sat in the chair, hugging herself as she slowly rocked back and forth. She stared straight ahead, oblivious to Eva's presence in the room. Eva kneeled in front of Sandy, took Sandy's face into her hands, and looked straight into her eyes. "What's wrong, Sandy?" Eva asked gently. Sandy focused and replied flatly, "I've killed him."
