This is a simple story surrounding an 8-year-old boy who has lost his parents and goes to live with his aunt and uncle in the country. The story is set early in the 20th century on the east coast-somewhere close to the Connecticut countryside.The story takes Max through that first year without his parents. There on the farm with his Aunt Cece and Uncle Jack, he experiences growing pains and happy first moments of a young boy's life. Santa Claus issues, that memorable first dance, helping a best friend in trouble, and coming to those forks in the road where the decisions we make help us grow up and understand more of life.Along the way, Max's Irish heritage comes into play with mystical characters that seem to help Max with the harsh realities of life.There's laughter, empathy, reminiscences, life lessons and even some surprises in store for the very end of the journey. The boy's name is Matthew Aloysius Xavier, but they called him Max.
